The most common way to level your character in World of Warcraft is to go questing. But some people quickly get bored with constant dungeon crawling or grinding mobs, but there are other quests you can go on that will not only level your character but expand your horizons in the game itself. Why limit yourself to only one quest type? There’s more than one way to play. Sure there are the kill X amount of mob Y for person Z quests, but there are also quests to find a particular object in enemy lands, search for a specific device or gather certain items.

Then there are escort quests. Escort quests usually involve you finding a friendly non-player character deep in dangerous territory. They will request that you take them to a certain location, and on the way, you need to defend them from the different mobs that they are going to attract or trigger. Escort quests usually have fairly good rewards, but how can you take them on successfully?

So before you set off, be sure you -and your character- are up for the challenge. Take any necessary precautions you can foresee, and attend to the smallest cuts and scrapes from your latest adventure. Pets are valuable companions to have -reassert your bond and be sure to keep them happy. There’s no rush to undertake an escort quest; make sure you’ve taken all the necessary steps to prepare for what’s in store. Once you agree to such a quest, there’s no telling where it will lead you, so be sure to tie up all loose ends!

When the character that you are escorting starts walking, start walking with them. Look forward as you go, though, because they are going to be walking into the aggro radius of the mobs in front of you. If at all possible, preemptively bring in the mobs that you think you are going to deal with.

The character that you are going to be escorting will run ahead to fight the mobs that you aggro, but then they will return to the place where they were walking when you are done. Remember to keep an eye on their heath; if they die, the quest is over and you will need to re-take it.

And because the rewards would not be great if the challenges weren’t greater, escorted characters tend to trigger mobs and guards without warning. So as you diligently scan the horizon for the next mob en route, be wary. Another reason to draw these standard mobs to you when you have the chance. That way you’re less likely to be ambushed by hoards of unruly adversaries at once!

For most escort quests, warlocks and hunters, with their pets, have a distinct advantage. If you do not have a pet to help you and to attract aggro, remember that grouping with other people for an escort quest might be a good idea.
