Vertical Jump Program Review – How To High Jump Technique

Athletes, especially basketball players, are always looking for ways to improve themselves and their skills. One of these skills is their jumps. A vertical jump program will help these athletes to get higher and help the basketball player to get up high enough to slam dunk a basketball.

The ability to be able to do a vertical jump depends on how much power you have and how much power you can exert. Muscle strength will determine how high off the ground you get. Speed also determines how quickly the jump can be done. Improve your speed and your strength and you will have a nice vertical jump.

Start working on the area, strength or speed, where you are weaker. Speed and strength will work together to improve the jump. When one is worked, the other will be worked as well.

To gain speed, do many drills to work on explosiveness. Sprints are a way to help work on speed. Time yourself and try to beat your previous time. Weight training will also help with speed. Legs, hips and core are involved in speed. Work and tone these muscles and speed will increase as well.

To gain strength, work the anterior and posterior chain muscles. These are the low back, calves, quadriceps, gluteals and hamstrings. The more toned and the stronger these muscles become the more strength that will be able to be used. The more strength, the higher a jump can be.

When the muscles are made stronger, the higher a jump can be made. Stronger muscles also translate over to speed as well. If your calves and legs are stronger, you will be able to push your self to move faster. Being both stronger and faster will help to make your jumps that much higher. As with all muscles, this will need to be constantly worked on or they will become weak and your jumps will lower.
