The Advantages of Using Solar Garden Lights
What can be more rewarding than to have the garden and pathways light up automatically without having to remember to switch on and switch off lights and pay bills?
Convenient- Because you do not have to wire anything, solar garden lights are very convenient. You can have lamps anywhere you want, through staking it into the ground, or mounting it on a structure via screws, as long as where it is located gets adequate sunlight.
Because it’s self generating, absorbing the sunlight’s energy and then discharging that same energy to create a soft, but bright light in the darkness, the solar garden lights are at the top of today’s technology.
In the early days these solar lamps were not very efficient. The photovoltaic cells weren’t strong enough to reliably hold a charge for more that a few hours. Today’s solar lamps have proven much more efficient since LED technology merged with the more dependable NiMH power packs, which replaced the older NiCAD model, and now offer stronger light along with a much greater length of discharge time.
The things that come together to create a solar garden light are fairly simple; when you look in the plastic case, you will discover a little controller board, that is hooked to a LED light source, a photo resistor needed to tell when it is dark, one AA NiCAD battery, and on top, a solar cell.
Environmentally Friendly – With the growing demand for renewable energy, technological advancements have greatly contributed to improved solar garden lights. There is a big selection of solar lights to choose from in stores now, and a multitude of places and uses for them as well.
The environment will not be hurt by solar powered lighting, since it doesn’t give off radiation or any other type of side effects, that can be found by other energy sources.
Safety – Solar power eliminates the worry about high power bills and prevents issues with voltage and power surges. There is no chance of being electrocuted making it safe to use in the presence of children and pets.
Also, solar lights do not require any cabling, any type of special wiring, or transformers. If you need to, you can place these lights at the furthest points of your property to create well-lit paths, show off a particular feature, or create a security perimeter. Much can be achieved with solar lights in the garden, and they can only increase your enjoyment of your garden.
Demand – The growing demand for this source of lighting has spawned the lighting industry to produce more decorative solar garden lighting that are both aesthetically and practically pleasing.
The drawback to solar garden lights, is how much they cost, but they will pay off later on by cheaper power bills.
