Following A Marketing Guru

February 10th, 2010 No comments

So you finally decided to become an Internet marketer, or if not that, an online businessman. Perhaps, one of the best things to do well in whatever field you’ve chosen is to get good advice.

Sure you have to know your business inside and out, and of course you have to know all the tips and tricks and techniques to be successful. However, to have a guru by your side, guiding you is worth more than all the training you’ve paid for in sweat.

Unluckily, not all has the good fortune of having a guru guide him or her personally. However, there’s still good news. Though one cannot follow his or her favorite guru physically, the wonders of the Internet has made it possible to follow a guru electronically. Don’t get what I mean? Let me explain from my experience.

I am a student of SEO and dabbling into trading. The guru I look up to the most is one David Jenyns. Now, though I live all across the globe from David, I am still able to follow him through his blogs and other social networking services he frequents like ning and twitter. Though I never have met him physically, with the help of the Internet, I feel like I have known him all my life.

So, have you now got an idea how to do the same with your own favorite guru? If you have a guru you want to emulate or follow, most likely you are following his or her blog. Though this is well and good, sometimes blogs are not updated often. A good thing to have is a twitter account and follow the account of whoever you want to follow. This gives you daily updates, sometimes hourly even.

Now this is good news for everyone who wishes to learn more from their favorite mentors, even if they are thousands of miles away. It’s a very good idea to have your own accounts in web 2.0 services like facebook, twitter, ning or even multiply. This makes you ready to follow whomever you want to with the purpose of learning, of course. Not a stalker.

Grabbing Onto Social Networks To Create Positive Website Recognition

February 8th, 2010 No comments

Given the reach and scope of the Internet, it seems as if every single person on the planet has a website these days. And even if that’s not technically true, it’s still a fact that there’s an incredible number of sites that pop into existence every minute (something like one every 5 seconds). Cutting through the “clutter” is important, and taking advantage of social networks like Face Book & Twitter really can give a website a boost, which is vital if one hopes to succeed in promoting a website to its fullest potential.

In effect, what are known as “social networks” are sites on the Internet or who work through that same technology base like Facebook and MySpace. Twitter makes use of a kind of text-page application that limits communications to 140 characters but which can be highly effective for getting the word out when it comes to news or even word about a new and interesting website that’s just been created. Many people today belong to these networks.

How it works is that somebody — in the case of all three social networks — will sign up at a website and begin joining existing friend networks or creating a circle of friends of their own. MySpace can be very involved and each person’s “space” on the site can carry a great deal of information. Facebook is a bit more streamlined and conversations can go on about any sort of topic for days, among the friends within that circle. All can attract literally millions of users.

Anybody owning a website and who wishes to effectively promote that website needs to consider joining those networks and arranging for ways to start getting the word out about that site. One needs to be cautious, though, because shameless promotion on any of the sites is usually considered to be rude, though plenty still do it. At any rate, it’ll be necessary to get others involved in the effort if a true “viral” campaign is to occur.

The first thing that anybody who has a website and wishes to promote through social networks needs to do is, of course, join those networks. But endlessly promoting one’s website on those networks can quickly get one ‘sandboxed’ or excluded from the sites. That’s why it’s going to be necessary to enlist others in the promotion by encouraging to visit chatrooms and websites to make mention of the website in question.

Remember; these promotional activities have to be more than just going on to Twitter or over to Facebook and then screaming loudly “GO VISIT XYZ WEBSITE!” because that’s crass and is ineffective anyway. Rather, a combination of word-of-mouth on the networks themselves and then some smart promotion on Internet search engines can make the most positive impact.

The whole idea behind social networks is to spread the word about almost everything under the sun. They’re nothing more than a way to carry on a global conversation and also a way to say to the world, “Hey… Here I am!” (especially when it comes to MySpace and Facebook). Getting the website and what it does on the minds and lips of the users of those networks is important and a concerted strategy to do so needs to be a priority, in other words.

It’s possible to do much of this very easily. Joining a network and then asking to be invited to as wide a circle of “friends” as possible is the first step and it goes hand-in-hand by enlisting the aid of others either already in the networks or who’ll be joining them for the purpose of carrying out subtle promotional activities. Do this intelligently and with a plan and it’s possible to learn how to go about using Face Book & Twitter to create a social network buzz for promoting a website, which is really the kind of buzz any website needs to thrive.
