A common question I’m often asked from people who are new to Internet marketing is whether or not they should be concerned with search engine optimization. What often happens is that after a while, new website owners don’t receive any traffic and they start to wonder why. The truth of the matter is that now they are focused on search engine optimization which determines where and how your website is ranked on search engines.

Search engine optimization, commonly referred to as SEO, is the practice of understanding the intricacies of how search engines work and their impact on rankings. When thinking about SEO, it’s important to focus your efforts on those techniques that have been proven to impact search engine rankings. When applied correctly, these techniques have a positive impact on results.

Search engine optimization is the practice of influencing the search engine rankings of your website. Dont take the concept of influencing results as a negative. The good news however is that many of these search algorithms have lots in common. In fact, building search engine optimized websites are easier today than ever before.

In a single article its difficult to explain all of the nuances of these techniques, but know that common SEO principles exist and can help you improve your ranking on major search engines. For example, having your keywords as part of your website URL, title, and web page has a positive impact on results for those seeking information related to your keyword.

The internet is full of informational products and services related to SEO. The reason why this has created an industry unto itself is because search engines are continually updating their algorithms. As a result, websites need to be continually updated, changed, and new strategies developed. Some principles stay the same however such as good quality content and the importance of keywords.

For anyone doing business online, I recommend having a working knowledge of search engine optimization. Although I don’t recommend trying to become and SEO expert, I do feel that it’s important to have an awareness of basic SEO principles. This is important because everything you do, from naming your web pages, to developing partnerships needs to consider the implications of search engine rankings.

Hiring SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies could not only save time but also improve the site and yet make you face the risk of damaging your reputation and your site. This means that you should research before you hire. SEO companies are meant to provide structure and content review of your site, impart advice on the technical aspect of web development, assist in content development, the business development campaign online is handled with their help, help in keyword research, give SEO training and give their expertise in specific geographies and markets.

Google search result pages are either paid advertisements or organic search results. They make it quite clear that they being a part of their search engine will not have any effect on your site’s presence. Do not open mail that comes from web consultants and SEO firms our of nowhere. Guarantee of the #1 ranking cannot be given to you by any SEO company on any site engine. Beware of SEO companies that do not clearly explain their intentions and act secretive.

Free-for-all links, schemes that suggest link popularity and such talk by any SEO company is a useless excuse. Don’t consider it. Do research about the SEO company’s background before hiring them. Ask clear questions to understand where the money is going. Avoid shadow domains they are usually owned by the SEO. Avoid ‘doorway’ pages. Walk away from these SEOs. The other things that indicate a rouge SEO are offering to sell keywords for the address bar, if they cannot distinguish between search result page ads and actual search results, use obscure, long keyword phrases and guarantee rankings on it.

You’d also want to avoid them if they have multiple aliases while operating or they try to gain traffic from search engines, scumware and spyware that are fake, if Google does not have them listed or if their domain was removed by Google, if they ask for root access to your servers or ask you for your FTP account information.
