The Mafia Wars Skill Points Guide

February 8th, 2010 No comments

Skill points are one of the fundamental advancement tools found in the game Mafia Wars. They are perhaps the single most important component of the game when it comes to being able to improve your character, become more powerful and be able to improve your character through the numerous jobs and challenges of the game.

There are a few existing ways to get Mafia Wars skill points. You can do jobs, level up and obtain them through trade of reward points. When you do a job level, you get a skill point. When you level up you generally receive five skill points and you are able to buy skill points by trading reward points.

Reward points can be obtained through a variety of methods including cash purchase. However, it is not necessary to buy reward points in order to get skill points or play the game. Skill points are obtained through the natural development of the game.

Skill points can be spent in a variety of ways. These attributes are attack, defense, health, energy, stamina and the newest addition, influence. Spend these points wisely because they will influence how quickly you are able to progress in the game. In the end, where you put them is your choice and defendant on what type of game you plan to play.

Available Attributes

You are able to use your skill points into the following attributes: defense, attack, stamina, energy, health and influence. Attack defines your strength in a fight. When you are attacked by another player your defense will determine the level of damage you take. Your health level helps increase the odds of being successful in a fight and more stamina increases how many times you are able to attack another player. The new influence attribute will determine how many rackets you are able to shake down at a time.

A bit more detail on the attributes follows:

Attack

Your total strength in the Mafia Wars game is influenced by a number of things. The strength of your Mafia gang, the items you have in your inventory (the game will pick the best item) and your own attack level. Skill points will increase your attack ratio on a 1 to 1 basis.

Defense

Just like your attack attribute, your overall defense level is determined by a variety of things including your personal attack level, the strength of your Mafia gang and items you have. You can boost your defense quicker in the Mafia game by picking up good items. Every skill point used will boost your defense by one level.

Health

Health is used for the following: fights, boss attacks and work as a hit man. This attribute is also increased on a 1 to 1 basis.

Stamina

Stamina is a little different because the ratio for increasing it is two to one ratio. So for every stamina point you want you have to use two skill points. Your stamina level will determine how many times you are able to attack other players.

Energy

One of the most primary attributes in the game is energy. You will be able to do more jobs and progress through the game faster if you have more energy. One skill point used will get your one energy point.

The New attribute – Influence

Influence allows you to run rackets. You need influence in order to shake down each racket you own. As with most of the others, this attribute is also 1:1.

You need to understand Mafia Wars Points because they increase your ability to dominate in the game. Find out more at Mafia Wars Points. Want to win all your fights? Want to be the Top Mafia? Get the guide that matters Dominating Mafia Wars.

A Simple Guide To Mafia Wars Rackets

February 8th, 2010 No comments

The future of the game is to use Mafia Wars rackets as a alternate for properties. Players who are new to the game will get the rackets feature while “old” players will still have access to the properties feature. An incentive of some type will eventually be given to players under the old system in order to move everyone into the rackets system. The new system is not meeting with much excitement, especially from players who have played under the properties system. There is also some complaints about how Zynga delivered the new system.

What is the new Mafia Wars rackets system? For those who have played Farmville, it is comparable to the time based harvesting system and essentially needs baby-sat for you to collect your reward.

Each racket has a specific time associated with it which tells you how long it will take to “shake down” the racket, after the time has elapsed you have to return to collect. The payout from the shake down can be lost if you do not return to collect it. Although you are told how long the racket will take to shake down, you are not notified how long you have to return and collect. The instructions in the game just say that you lose the profit “if you don’t return promptly”.

Influence is needed in order to shake down a racket. You receive no reload on influence when you level up, but you get one point regenerated per hour.

Rackets are found under the… wait for it… rackets tab and you will find a number of tabs under that. The different types of rackets are: cash, attack, defense and jobs. You will get the specified cash or boost when you shake down each racket.

You will also receive the influence back that was used when you began the shake down which you can use to do another one. If your influence level is full, this will go above that level to a maximum of 125%. You can, however, lose the influence if you are too slow collecting on the shake down. As stated earlier, if you don’t return promptly you will also lose your take and the other benefits you may have received from the shake down.

Each racket can be mastered. Each time you master a racket you receive access to additional rackets. Rackets seem to pay out very little compared to properties but once you have mastered them your take will go up.

For those coming from the properties version of the game this may seem really futile, but the payout can receive quite high after you master the racket levels.

Mafia Wars Rackets can give you a lot more than just cash. Many provide boosts and other bonuses that are key to dominating the game. For more information have a look at Mafia Wars Rackets in Detail. Warcraft After Cataclysm – The New Landscape of Azeroth

February 7th, 2010 No comments

The kingdoms of Azeroth are going to change forever. After the Cataclysm that hits the Warcraft World, the areas that you once knew will be changed forever.

Just looking at a few examples. Ashenvale for example will now live up to its nomenclature and become a vale…full of ash. On the flip side Desolace will cease to be the desolate wasteland and become a typical Night Elf haven, all pretty purples and greens. My favourite area of Stranglethorn Vale will remain roughly similar, but plans are to have a volcano in the middle of it (so not that similar at all then).

But it’s not just the changes that we need be wary of. It is the requirements on your PC. Looking at the videos for the new zones it is clear that they are much more detailed than the existing Azeroth. A good thing. However, for those of you scraping by on an old PC, this expansion might signal the need for a change.

If you are a multi boxer this will of course stack up. You’ll need to keep a careful aye on the detail levels you set four your slave clients. Reduce the frames-per-second and perhaps change the settings on your keymapping software a little if they have the options.

What I notice more than anything else is the amount of movement that goes on screen even when there are no players or NPC’s present. Clouds move, the water textures are vastly improved, smoke billows, flags flutter. It’s all going on, and all needs rendering by your PC.

Warcraft has never been a particularly resource intensive game, and realistically it will still be a couple of years behind the zeitgeist hardware wise. But people play on mid and low end machines, and these may struggle to keep up, or risk compromising the beautiful landscapes and player models that blizzard are adding.

Cataclysm could be many months off. SO there is no panic at all, but my advice (for what it’s worth) is to spend the time saving for some upgrades to your PC, especially if it is a little long in the tooth.
