Foods That Lower Blood Pressure

February 21st, 2010 No comments

When it comes to lowering blood pressure and preventing heart disease our diet plays an essential role. The foods that we eat can actually raise or lower blood pressure naturally. So it is important to be informed of the foods we should seriously cut back on or even eliminate completely, and also which foods we should be eating a lot more of.

Foods high in saturated fat such as red meats, some sauces and dairy products need to be cut down to a minimum. Red meat should be consumed no more than once or twice a month and dairy products should be the low fat or non-fat options.

Some margarines and other processed foods contain hydrogenated (chemically altered) fats and should be avoided at all costs. These are extremely bad to our health, especially our heart health. Hydrogented fats have actually been band in N.Y city!

Too much sodium(salt) in the diet is the most well known cause of high blood pressure. This is another reason to cut back on salty red meats and of course to limit the amount of added sodium to meals. Black pepper and a variety of other herbs and spices can provide variation in taste and are great substitutes for sodium.

Red grape juice is an ‘A list celebrity’ when it comes to heart health and lowering blood pressure. The skin of red grapes contain a powerful antioxidant called resveratrol that has recently been proven to be a key factor in the heart health benefits of red grapes and its juices and wines. Resveratrol has been found to greatly increase the elasticity of our arteries and therefore lower blood pressure. Homemade red grape fruit juice recipes are a great way to get lots of resveratrol into our diet. Commercial juices are lower in resveratrol due to processing methods.

Garlic is another food that is very effective at lowering blood pressure. Although it is good to use plenty of it in your cooking, high dose supplements are the most effective way of reaping garlic’s heart health benefits. Garlic helps to keep the blood thin by inhibiting blood platelet aggregation and also stimulates nitric oxide production in the body. Nitric oxide promotes relaxation in blood vessels which in turn lowers blood pressure.

Eating foods high in omega-3 fatty acids is very beneficial for overall heart health. Oily fish, cod liver oil and dark green leafy vegetables are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids and great foods that lower blood pressure, prevent the development of arteriosclerosis and lower cholesterol levels.

Spinach is a great source of two nutrients that are needed to help lower blood pressure – folate and magnesium. These nutrients help regulate several functions that keep the blood vessels working properly. Another important nutrient is potassium. Potassium is needed to keep the heart muscle pumping with regularity. A daily banana will help provide most of your daily needs of potassium.

Resolution Of High Blood Pressure Without Drugs

February 3rd, 2010 No comments

The subject “high blood pressure treatment” brings up over 18 million listings on Google. And “high blood pressure medications” brings up over 48 million listings. One might conclude that a lot of people have a lot to say on this subject and that it is a subject of great concern. But who can read over 48 million listings and then sort out the true data from the false?

Let us define the term. High blood pressure results when there is too much resistance to the amount of blood the heart pumps. Sometimes authorities disagree about what numbers indicate blood pressure is high, and certainly the numbers have changed over the years, but all agree that high blood pressure is not good.

Often there are no symptoms for high blood pressure. People often don’t know they have this situation. But every time you go to a doctor, the nurse will check your blood pressure. Certainly any doctor would let you know if it is high.

All doctors want to see blood pressure at a normal level in their patients. High blood pressure becomes important because the extra pressure can cause damage in the body and make the chance of stroke or heart attack more likely.

Sometimes obvious habits or conditions cause high blood pressure. Smoking is definitely a cause of high blood pressure, and being overweight can cause high blood pressure, although not all overweight people have high blood pressure. But often there is no obvious cause.

There are a lot of drugs on the market, specifically for the purpose of controlling blood pressure, and most doctors prescribe one or a combination of drugs for that purpose. However, all drugs come with side effects, and sometimes more drugs are prescribed to handle the side effects, and on and on. This is an undesirable situation.

Doctors trained in alternative medicine do have solutions to high blood pressure that can be done without side effects. Hundreds of studies have shown these supplements are excellent alternatives to drugs, and do produce desired results. Coenzyme Q-10, L caritine and D-Ribose are principally successful, but there are others.

Chelation therapy is another very effective way of lowering blood pressure and preventing strokes and heart attacks. It is not a new therapy, but has been around since the 1940′s, originally used to cure lead poisoning. It used a strong antioxidant, usually delivered by IV, which binds to toxins in the body and thus allows them to be eliminated. In this process, plaque is removed from arteries, and blood circulation increases, lowering blood pressure. The therapy is administered by a doctor and is an excellent alternative to taking drugs for the rest of one’s life.

Is Hypertension Making You Dizzy?

December 21st, 2009 No comments

“What was that?” A friend of mine was startled while we stood in line for to purchase our tickets. Naturally, I asked him to elaborate on what he meant. I suddenly felt kind of dizzy.”

We started discussing all the factors because he said this is not the first he felt the dizziness. He started noticing small dizziness and simultaneously it’s the time he learned he was also hypertensive.

Until he came across a routine health check up my friend had never witnessed any of the hypertension symptoms. The common hypertension symptoms are headache, blurred vision and fatigue.

What most research has shown is that it is actually low blood pressure and not high blood pressure that causes dizziness. When blood pressure drops suddenly, dizziness is oftentimes the effect.

Research indicates that low blood pressure usually accounts for feeling dizzy.

It is important to know the way in which blood pressure goes about dropping is less important than identifying that it is dropping. Blood pressure dropping with a pattern of intervals unleashes the side effect, indicating a medical issue.

Blood pressure can be measured many times a day by an ambulatory cuff. It is better and important to measure you blood pressure many times a day because it is the only way to know whether you have a high or low blood pressure.

I though my friend should be suffering from vertigo. As dizziness is called vertigo.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common type of vertigo. This is an inner ear disorder in which dizziness suddenly occurs when one bends one’s head in a certain position.

Even my friend’s doctor has failed to inform him that dizziness is a side effect of medication taken for hypertension. It was the reason to get concerned.

Among all the side effects dizziness was at the bottom of the list but it is dangerous too. When my friend got concerned when he saw many stickers on the bottle warning about the side effects. This happened when he got his first prescription filled.

Even after repeated attempts to get his doctor to explore the possibility that his medicine could be causing his dizziness, it wasn’t until he threatened to stop taking the medicine that his doctor finally prescribed something else. Yes, the dizziness went away but then a new set of side effects cropped up. This is how I ended up recommending my program.

Immediately my friend saw positive results. Eventually, he was able to prove to his doctor that my program worked and he was able to stop taking the medicine that had caused him so many problems.

My program is all natural and very easy to do. You can use that if you are suffering from hypertension. I also recommend my program on vertigo and dizziness if you suffer from vertigo or dizziness. It has worked out for most people.
