Installing Your Window Roller Shades

February 9th, 2010 No comments

All of us dream of a beautiful house to live in. But not all of us have the ability to purchase anything we want to decorate our houses. If your budget is restricted but you want to make your house beautiful then roller shades may be the choice for you. They will be the ideal methods to highlight the house and even adjust the lighting in the house.

There are many types of roller shades on the market. They can give a room from a sheer background to heavy shade required to control lighting. The advance in technology has given birth to a variety of shade material including textured fabric to synthetic materials that will match the design of the room. When you go out to buy window shades, you should ask the seller for advice, they will be happy to provide you with lots of information about roller shades.

Before you start going out to purchase roller shades, you should find out which way you want to install your window shades: either on the inside or on the outside of the windows. When you choose to install from the inside, you’ll have to measure the length and the width of the shades you will buy. If you mount from the outside, you’ll have to make sure if you want to mount the window shades far beyond the windows or right on top of the windows.

Now after you have purchased the shades, you will come to the next step that is to mount them onto your windows. First you need to install the window brackets that often come with the window shades. You will choose the place to install those brackets according to where the new shades will be installed.

If you choose to mount the shade on the inside of the window, you should check to be sure that the brackets are all made parallel to each other. The shade after installed has to be able to move easily between the two brackets. The shade also needs to be checked so that it won’t interfere with the top of the window . When the shade interfere with the top of the window frame, the shade won’t be able to operate freely.

The technique is the same for the outside. But there is a point to remember: You should leave at least 1/8′ of space between the brackets for the shade to operate smoothly.

There is also another type of mounting the window shades that you should know. It is referred to as the ‘ceiling mount’. The method is the same but you also need to make sure the shade won’t touch the ceiling and there is a spacious distance between the brackets for the shade to move easily.

The next step is to see if the whole thing is operating nicely. If you choose the spring roller shade, you can perform the test by lowering the shade for 15″ to tighten the spring. Then you can release the spring again by rolling it back up. What we need to check here is to find whether the spring is tight enough to make the shade move freely. But remember not to tighten the spring too much because it will cause damage to the roller.

Your snug house will be more elegant with the roller shades. In addition to their decorating purpose, roller shades can be used to control the lighting in the room. This is extremely helpful for those whose rooms have lots of unwanted light. Roller shades have another advantage: it is very easy to tidy up and some type of window shades are resistant to mold and mildew.

Confessions Regarding An Obsessive Compulsive Kitchen Drapery Fanatic

February 8th, 2010 No comments

Probably my favorite place to spend time in is the kitchen. It has been that way in every house that I have lived in recently, but the one I currently have is a little to small to spend a great amount of time in. It almost seems like there is a small window conspiracy going on as every kitchen that I encounter as my own has small ones and as a result I have to get small kitchen window treatments. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I can never find sheers that I adore.

Looking for these kitchen curtains has taken up way too much of my time recently. I find this to be utterly ridiculous but it is very true. I have gone everywhere and looked in all locations that I can think of and there is no window treatments around that I like for my kitchen. It should be a simple matter of choosing a color or pattern that will match what is in my kitchen, but I have not found anything that appeals to me. The fact of the matter is though that I am going to have to look at these shades every single day so I want them to be just right. I have a hard time finding curtains and drapes for the rest of my house, but nothing is more frustrating than trying to find them for the kitchen.

I do have some drapes on my dining room windows, but looking at them is not something that pleases me. They are one solid color, and I was wishing to find something with a pattern. I understand that it is kind of a lame and petty thing to complain and whine about, but whenever I look at them they make me feel down.

I know for a fact that I am not the only person who has to deal with this problem. The other person who suffers from the same fate that I am in and doubtless gave it to me via her genes is my mother. She can never find a kitchen curtain that she likes either and is perpetually changing them. My mothers lack of satisfaction with her draperies is understandable though as she has spent over half of her years on this earth inside of a kitchen.

Even though I am not much of a seamstress, I may have to give in and make my own kitchen shades. You wouldn’t think that it would be that hard. At least you wouldn’t think so. I know I can find a piece of material that I like, because I have seen many in a craft store that I had thought would make great kitchen draperies. Making them myself is fast becoming my only option and I am going to have to give in if I do not find something that I like soon. It’s not that I don’t like to sew, it’s that I don’t have a sewing machine. That said the only option that I have for sewing draperies is to do them by hand. After I am finished you might be more apt to use the window treatments for a pillow case rather than a curtain but hey they will be in a pattern that I love.

If you like me are tired of seeking kitchen window curtains, then come to this site and find out the places that have truly quality curtains that you will love. Visit http://curtainsforsale.org for more FREE information.
