Traditionally our workouts have been broken down into three stages: 1. At least 30 mins of slow, boring cardio to burn fat. 2. 45 minutes on weights, zoning in on one of our muscle groups. You know the drill; back one day, chest the next and so on. 3. Finally 15 minutes of pure ab work; the only way to get a six pack.

And what is our reward from following that ‘same old advice’? Aches, pains, getting in decent shape if we’re lucky and a lot of time at the gym. If we really want the body of our dreams then we need to quit our jobs and hit the gym full-time!

Well the truth about ripped six pack abs is that you don’t need to get into the routine of spending hours at the gym in order to get ripped. In fact, that crazy routine is one of the reasons you are not ripped in the first place.

Using An Electric Toothbrush Is An Easy Way To Teach Children Proper Hygiene

February 11th, 2010 No comments

Children always want to do the same thing an adult or sibling is doing. This is the perfect way to teach children the way to have proper oral hygiene. If you use electric toothbrushes to brush your teeth your child will want to brush theirs the same way. Their too little for an electric one but there are many models that are battery operated for children.

Toddlers are the perfect age to teach how to take care of their teeth. When they are taught early it will prevent the chance of tooth decay as they age. Baby teeth need to be taken care of as well but when they are just beginning to cut their teeth, simply rinsing their gums with water will suffice. When they begin to cut teeth their gums will be sore so be sure to use a toothbrush with soft bristles made for toddlers.

When toddlers see adults putting toothpaste on their toothbrush they also will want to have some on their toothbrush. There is toothpaste made especially for toddlers that will not hurt them if they swallow it because of the low amounts of fluoride. A toddler will also brush more if they have a soft bristled battery operated toothbrush.

It is recommended that we brush our teeth for two minutes. Getting your child to brush their teeth for two minutes will be tough at times unless they are entertained. There are many children’s toothbrushes that will play music for two full minutes. This will teach the child to not stop brushing until the music stops.

If you prefer your child to use a manual toothbrush, use an egg timer that can be set for two minutes. The child will anticipate the timer going off while continuing to brush their teeth. It is important to get children in the habit of brushing their teeth in the morning and before bedtime. Often time’s children will go along with completing hygiene chores if it is a game of some sort.

Make up a song with your child to sing while doing their morning and evening chores. As you and the child sing the song the two of you could complete the hygiene chores at the same time. Children love to brush their teeth along side an adult and will tend to follow through if you are also brushing your teeth.

Children also need to be taught to brush their tongue, gums and cheeks to complete the hygiene process. Many children will have difficulties with this so it may help to do it for them until they get the hang of it. Flossing is essential as well. To get a child to floss might be easier with one of the children’s flavored flosses available.

Brushing teeth as early as possible is the most important part of cavity prevention. The earlier a child learns to take care of their teeth the stronger and healthier their teeth will be. Poor oral hygiene can be painful as well as expensive when trips to the dentist are frequently required. Remember the child will want to do whatever they see an adult do so if you use electric toothbrushes, getting the child a battery operated one will more than likely persuade them to brush their teeth.

If you use electric toothbrushes, let your kid use a kid sized battery operated one. Teaching children as soon as toddler years to use an electric toothbrush will help to prevent bad teeth and gums later in life.

Do You Suffer Panic Attacks During Sleep?

February 11th, 2010 No comments

Panic attack during sleep is an increasingly common syndrome for many people. The number of people reporting to doctors and psychiatrists about the case has continued to increase with each year as statistics show. It has been established that with increase in the stress conditions of everyday life, a very sizeable portion of us today suffer panic attacks at night.

For most people, the biological sleep and wake cycle is voluntary and natural. It is normally called the biological clock. However, for many others, the sleep and wake balance is quite sensitive. If it is not subjected to the normal timetable, it brings about a radical change in the person.

1. “It’s only a trivial matter”

Initially it is easy to dismiss it as just lack of enough rest. Normally the afflicted person is subject to restlessness during the night and in the morning and finds it easy to dismiss the lack of sleep or insomnia. However, with growing recurrence of the loss of sleep it more often than not turns out to be a chronic disease.

2. Three tell tale signs

There are three common symptoms that victims of anxiety attacks display. The first one is insomnia, which is evident from daytime fatigue and lethargy as well as irregular sleep patterns. A large number of victims who deal with panic attacks often complain of insomnia. Women and elderly people are most vulnerable to the condition, though statistics in recent years have shifted to cover a wide group of demographics.

3. Attacks during night time

A small group of people suffer panic attack during sleep. Night time anxiety attacks are very serious conditions. As a result of this condition, the victim is now afraid of going into deep slumber because he does not want to relive the symptoms of this disorder.

Most people fear that they lose control of themselves when in slumber. This feeling is more intense and aggravated when one suffers from the disorder because the victim fears that he will lose complete control when the symptoms strike. The experience that one undergoes is as traumatic and on the same level as a patient who is experiencing cardiac arrest.

4. Other symptoms

These symptoms are known to include heavy sweating, suffocating, revulsions, writhing and so on. When the victim or patient is aware of such attacks, it results in even more intensified symptoms for the disease since it drives them into more panic. It has actually been proven that those who are most aware of their condition are the biggest victims.

5. Dreams are not related to the cause

Most people have the notion that this disorder normally occurs when deep into sleep and when dreaming. This notion is utterly wrong since it is impossible for one to have nightmares every day. It has actually been proven that most cases of this disorder suffer in the early stages of sleep and not when they are deep asleep or dreaming.

6. Seeking a cure

In any case, all victims of panic attacks during sleep should seek professional help the moment they are aware of the disorder. It can degenerate into far worse if they continue to neglect it.
