How To Keep In Touch With The Latest Airport News

February 10th, 2010 No comments

Keeping up to date with the latest airport news before you jet off anywhere is always wise. There can often be complications of course, for many reasons, but with the internet to help, it is perfectly easy to keep abreast of most eventualities.

The first place to check out is the website of the airport you are flying out of. In all likelihood, any pertinent information will hit here first. From general information, to reports and alerts, there are usually pages specifically designed to keep passengers aware.

Sometimes of course, you may have heard something that you cannot verify on the website. If this is the case, then contacting the airport directly is always good. However, it is worth bearing in mind that there me some time taken to answer the call; such is the nature of daily operations at any airport.

The next place to head for is the website of the operator or carrier you are flying with. Again, they should be able to help you and, though keeping in touch with general airport news is important, there may be something particular to them that will not be generally supported.

A handy tip that many people do not immediately think of is to also keep in touch with the goings on at the destination airport. It can be easy to forget this, but it will obviously impact quite severely on you should there be an issue here.

These are excellent starting points, and certainly valuable for specific information. However, it is also good to keep in touch with wider events, and there are a number of standalone websites that offer this. From press releases, to rumor, it is all covered.

All sites tend to offer email alerts and RSS feeds which are useful; particularly as you able to select various criteria to ensure you only get relevant information. And clicking on the links of anything interesting, will allow you to check for yourself of course.

Staying in touch with the local news, through the internet, the TV and the radio is also useful on occasion. However, their stories are likely to be the more major things, so it is likely you would already know this information.

Mindful of the world we live in, and the changeable environment airports work in, it is good to appreciate that sometimes information cannot be relayed. However, most airport news will be generally broadcast somewhere, so it should not be too hard to find what you need.

Harley Davidson Forums

January 12th, 2010 No comments

Throughout the long history of Harley Davidson motorcycles, there has existed some kind of attraction to a brotherhood amongst owners. You can witness this daily as you watch two motorcycle riders pass each other on the road. Inevitably some kind of greeting takes place, it may be a head nod, a wave, a thumbs up, who knows but they will acknowledge each other based on nothing more than they both ride motorcycles.

Where this need to belong to a group comes from, nobody knows, but it is there. In days gone by, bikers would congregate in a bar or clubhouse and knock down a few beers and swap war stories into the wee hours of the morning. In the digital age, it’s a bit different. While the biker bars are hardly gone the way of the dinosaur, a new clubhouse has formed and that is the internet forum or bulletin board.

Internet Age Bike Club

The internet makes getting together and swapping motorcycle stories very easy and in fact, opens up a whole new group of riders to your circle. Online message boards and forums are quite common today and can be found on just about any topic on the planet, so it’s no surprise that motorcycles would be any different.

If you are not familiar with a message board or forum then it’s a website where you can register and interact with other members by leaving messages or “posts” for them to read. It might sound kind of dull but it’s really quite engaging if you give it a chance and stick around long enough to learn the personalities of those involved. The best part is that these forums are there day or night, all year long. It’s a biker bar that doesn’t close.

Most Popular Forums

If this sounds like something you might be interested then we will share our thoughts on a few of the forums that we personally frequent and have found attractive. There are more out there but we can’t list them all.

HDForums – The biggest of them all from what I’ve seen but I don’t think that makes it the best. It appears that the sponsors run the show and any negative talk about a board sponsor will quickly get a thread closed or deleted and maybe a reprimand from the admins. It’s definitely the biggest resource forum on the net though and you can quickly get answers to almost any question you might have.

VTwinforums – This forum is similar to HDForums in some ways but is kind of the gearhead version. What I mean by that is this seems to be the forum for those who not only like to ride their Harley Davidson but also work on it themselves. It has an extensive technical archive and just about any Harley Davidson question can be found here.

HawgNet – This site is still new to the world it appears and the forum is developing still. I don’t see many ads on the forum and I like that. What is cool about this site is that a fairly extensive collection of product reviews appears to be developing and the reviews are user generated, not some marketing junk planted on a website to get you to buy. I like that and think this could grow into a massive someday along the lines of http://mtbr.com for the mountain biking enthusiasts.

These are only three of the many Harley related forums that are out there but you get the idea and can do the searching yourself if you don’t find what you are looking for here.
