Ways to Get Colored Contact Lenses
Crystal Gayle’s hit song “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” seemed like wishful thinking back in the 1970’s. Four decades later, changing your brown eyes to blue, green or even Liz Taylor violet can be done in the wink of an eye. There are a vast number of ways to color your eyes and a vast number of ways to get colored contacts or even colored contacts without prescription.
Opaque contacts will completely change your eye color to blue, green, gray, light brown or violet. Translucent color lenses will primarily enhance your own eye color. You can even purchase special effects or theatrical contacts to transform your peepers into those of a dragon, a cat, a black-eyed demon or a red-eyed vampire.
There are a number of ways to get colored contacts, but essentially it depends on what you want, where you live and if you are willing to break the law.
If you are trying to correct a vision problem as well as change your eye color, you’re going to need to see an eye doctor. This is the more expert and costly option. An optician or an ophthalmologist can exam your eyes and fit you for the proper lenses. You can fill your prescription there or take it to any optical store or department store which has an optical center and choose your colored lenses. You also can place your prescription order via phone or online and have the contacts delivered to your front door. If you choose to go with an eye doctor, expect to pay usual fees for a doctor’s visit, fitting and cost of a prescription. If you don’t need a prescription in the color lenses, it’ll cost a lot less.
If you simply want to get colored contacts for fun or fashion, here’s where you could run into breaking the law. In the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, law requires that you still have a prescription even if there is no prescriptive power in the contact lenses. The law was imposed to protect consumers from health threats such as blindness or other eye injury. In spite of that law, vendors still sell colored contacts at flea markets, beauty salons and novelty shops. There are also numerous sites online that advertise colored contacts without prescriptions. These are buyers beware because there is no expert to fit them on your eyes or to give you advice on putting on or removing the contacts. That said, most of these online sites advertise colored contacts for really bargain basement prices. Some of these websites sell colored or fashion contacts for under $15.00 before shipping and handling costs.
