Keep Your Old Laptop Or Buy New
With prices in electronics dropping to an all time low, many people are tossing around the idea of buying a new laptop. Think about another option before plunking down your cold hard cash for a new laptop. In today’s trying economic times, why not spend your money wisely.
If you have been throwing the idea of a new computer around, think about this first. Used laptops are plentiful online. In addition, there are options for refurbished or off lease products for considerably less.
Depreciation is something to consider when you buy new. Paying $1000 to $1500 for a new laptop might not be such a good idea when there are many “used” laptops that will suffice depending on your needs. Make the decision to do some investigating to see what’s available out there before committing to a new laptop.
Being a smart consumer could be as easy as hitting Ebay to find a used or refurbished laptop. New, still in the box models are also available for a lesser price than retail. I also found out that Dell, Panasonic and Sony all have refurbished and off lease models for sale.
Something I found interesting was on the Dell website was that they have refurbished off lease models that you can purchase without an operating system. Many of us already have these from our previous laptop purchase if we bought the software new. That operating systems can be reinstalled in your refurbished Dell and you are up and running.
Going the route of a refurbished off lease from the manufacturer can be a great way to get exactly what you want. There’s extra money left for upgrades in memory, maybe even a new printer if you save enough. Why not check this option first and see if it can work for you!
The best thing to do is to put it all on paper. Make yourself a list of what you want on your new laptop, price it all out and then do the same for your refurbished. I bet that you will see that you might save enough money to make this a logical solution. I even purchased an extended 3-year warranty on my refurbished and still saved over $250.
Upgrades in memory are easy to install so don’t be nervous about doing these things yourself. Operating systems can also be purchased online from Ebay and other websites for a considerable savings if you want to switch to something like Window’s XP Professional from Window’s Home as an example. Fast and simple and you could be up and running like new in no time.
If you have a laptop that runs good, but is a little sluggish, an external hard drive is always an option. You can free up some of your hard drive space in addition to the upgrade to more memory and your problems could be easily solved. All I’m saying is be smart about your decision to upgrade or buy new and you could find yourself saving a lot of money!
