Battery Failure Could Be A Thing Of The Past
As we quickly fly through the 21st century, technology is rapidly advancing in unimaginable ways. Manufacturers are constantly working to better the devices we have become so dependent on. Prolonging productivity in the field is at the top of their list.
Batteries have always been a problem with laptops. Well, not for much longer. In the not so distant future, we will be working off solar power for our portable notebooks.
What in the world has taken them so long to figure this out? These thin flexible sheets of solar panel will be wrapped around our laptops to recharge the batteries. Sounds incredible and way overdue if you ask me.
Something new to our ears are micro fuel cells. They are said to be much lighter than our current laptop batteries and are touting a much longer batter life. Hope to hear more about them in the near future but they are not yet in the testing phase.
Scientists at the University of Arizona are working with an alkaline compound called borohydride as an alternate source of energy for our electronic devices that will provide us with a longer battery life. This battery would enable us to work on our computers all day on a single charge. While the fuel cell is still the research phase, we hope to will see them on the market soon.
Costing much more than the solar power, which is free, the micro fuel cells may have an advantage over the free solar panels. Solar panels will not work at night or indoors so they will have a limited use. Just another thing to consider when choosing your new battery source.
As a field representative, I have experienced battery failure more times then I can say. This usually occurs at a critical time of my day which leaves me scampering around for an outlet. I will be elated knowing that there is a solution right around the corner.
Utilizing the natural light to power our computers is a fantastic idea; it’s going to present problems for those who need their laptops during other times of the day. With choices on the market, it’s going to be better however you look at it. Choosing which option suits your needs or try them both for an educated decision.
Whatever way the manufacturers decide to go will be better than it is at the present time. Batteries are a sore subject with most laptop users and to have new technology will be a bonus regardless. Cost will be a factor and it’s something we will deal with but at least we are heading towards a positive solution.
