The measurements of each room you are going to decorate are required when using a room planner. This is to give you an accurate layout of the space. Buy a very long measuring tape from a store and then run it along the sides of each wall. Also, measure the height of the rooms and jot down each room shape.
The planning software will allow you to place different kinds of furniture and accents in the rooms. You can play with different kinds of couches, tables, multimedia furniture, and even cabinets. Some even include lighting options.

If you use a website for planning, you will most likely have to create a login. This does not give you any obligation to buy products and services from that company, so do not worry about creating an account. The reason many sites ask you to make an account is because they want you to be able to save your work. This way you can go back to the site and pick up from where you have left off, rather than having to start all over.
For some people, using only a room planner, such as a kitchen planner, will not be enough. This is especially true if the design you make is quite complex and hard to execute.
