Remove Unwanted Items And Save Your Favorite Kitchen

Our kitchens are easily the busiest room in our homes. From cooking and entertaining to a place for your kids to do their homework, play board games or work on their arts and crafts projects, it can be easily overrun with art supplies, outdated spices and unused or damaged utensils.

A kitchen should be a place for preparing meals and not be used as a store room. Sift through the cupboards and remove any old spices that you no longer need along with anything else you haven’t touched in years – you can’t keep things in order if you keep hoarding plastic storage containers that are 10 years old. If your drawers look a bit worn, this may be a great time to purchase a new set of liners and have them installed.

Store pots, pans and cooking utensils near the stove, nesting the pots and pans together to conserve space. Make sure each one you choose to keep has a matching lid.

Do your drawer handles look all worn out? This is a good opportunity for you to spruce up the look of your old kitchen and give it a touch of modern style. There are many places you can buy drawer pulls and knobs for your kitchen inexpensively, on the internet.

If your knives, forks and other eating utensils are stored in a cupboard, move them to a drawer near the kitchen sink or dining table so you can immediately store them after washing.

If you have a truck-load of food storage type containers, then it’s time to get them categorized as well. Sticker labeling hand held devices are rather cheap these days that there’s no reason why you should not use them. You can get them at any good stationery store.

Alphabetize your spices and keep them near the stove on a spice rack or in a nearby cupboard on a revolving rack. Store food items that you use on a daily in a place you can easily grab them when needed.

Time to get that pantry in tip top shape as well. Again, throw out any expired canned foods and stuff you don’t need or haven’t touched in year. Categorize your canned food into groups so you will be able to identify them in an instant, rather than spending minutes sifting through a stack of randomly placed containers or cans. A pantry can also be a perfect place to store any other items like scissors (so your kids won’t get access to it).

Lastly, keep your kitchen counter tops free of clutter. Having a clean and organized kitchen bench top will allow you to work more quickly and easily, so you can spend more time doing the things that you really want to do (like playing with your kids). Migrate all seldom used electrical appliances to the pantry or available cupboards.
