Pre-diabetes And Blood Sugar Levels

Pre-diabetes is a term for the condition of elevated blood sugar levels, but not so high to be called diabetes. Overweight is another symptom, along with high blood pressure, low HDL cholesterol and higher triglycerides. Sounds like a number of Americans would fit this profile and there things to do to reverse this condition and return to normal glucose levels.

First on the list of things to do is to lose weight. It doesn’t have to be a tremendous amount of weight either. Five to fifteen pounds could do big things in getting these symptoms back in check. Losing enough weight to get to your ideal weight would be a good thing, but any steps to that goal will produce positive results. Long range goals and plans to increase exercise every day will produce the best results and be the most long-lasting. A walking program is an easy way to start and doesn’t require any extra equipment other than what you probably already own. It’s just a matter of putting that equipment to good use. Making exercise a priority everyday and sticking to it will over time help reduce weight and then help keep it off.

Combining exercise with diet changes can accelerate weight loss and achieve results quicker than exercise alone. Changing what you eat will also affect glucose levels and help bring them back to normal quicker too. Lean protein and high-fiber vegetables as the main source of nutrition will reduce the amount of sugar you are eating and hopefully return test results to normal blood sugar levels.

It is important to take steps to reverse pre-diabetes symptom as studies show that unless changes are made diabetes will indeed develop in the coming years and bring with it cardiovascular complications that none of us wants. If you are diagnosed with pre-diabetes it’s time to get to work and roll back the time to earlier days and better health.
