Inexpensive Portable Apartment Alarms Can Save in the Long Run

Many people who own or rent an apartment have a false sense of security, and most don’t bother installing an alarm system.

But the fact is, apartments are one of the biggest targets for criminal mostly because the bad guys know they’re not going to get caught.

Police in one community that was suffering a rash of apartment break-ins questioned the renters about why they hadn’t installed alarms and the answer given that they didn’t have anything worth stealing.

Burglars aren’t just looking for expensive jewelry when they break into someone’s house, they are looking for items they can quickly sell, including laptops, televisions, gaming systems and portable devices such as cellphones, iPods, and MP3 players. Certainly such items aren’t worth thousands of dollars, but do you really want to leave yourself open to having them stolen?

If you are one of those people who truly don’t believe you have anything worth stealing, take another look around your apartment and chances are you’ll find plenty that would attract the would-be burglar.

Not only can it be a hassle and expensive when someone breaks into your home, there is a sense of violation that someone was in your home, looking through your things.

All that heartache and hassle can easily be avoided by spending as little as $10 for the most basic portable alarm. Criminals want two things: an easy target (most apartments are amazingly easy to break into), and they don’t want to get caught.

Most portable apartment alarms emit an extremely loud and piercing sound that will drive most criminals away before they even take a single step into your home. Other alarms sound like a large and unfriendly barking dog.

Portable alarms are simple to install, easy to operate, and because they are portable, you can bring them with you when you move or even on vacation. Several models are so small they can easily fit into a handbag or an overnight bag. Most are wireless, so they can be installed just about anywhere in your apartment, and some can be used both on windows or doors.

Many alarms can be made inactive via remote, so you don’t trigger the alarm and bother your neighbors every time you come home. Also look for alarms that have automatic shut-offs, so on the rare occasion they are triggered accidentally, they don’t drive you neighbors crazy.
