Your First Article Marketing Campaign
Article Marketing is a fairly basic concept to understand really. It is perhaps the easiest way to get started with your online business. You do however, need to follow a basic set of guidelines in order to get the most out of your article marketing campaign. If you get it right you can start getting targeted traffic from the first article that you submit. The best part of article marketing is that it is both free and highly effective. All you need to do is write articles relevant to your particular market niche, or have them written for you and then submit them to the various article directories. These are all good reasons why you need to start an article marketing campaign.
You then need to submit your articles to article directories on the web. For example let’s say you have a site on weightloss products and your keywords are:
Lose 20 pounds in one month Diet programs Lose Weight Weight Loss Programs Weight Loss Food
The articles you write need to be based on these keywords in order to maximize the likelihood of being indexed by the search engines. Try to use so called “longtail” keywords as these will also help to increase the chances of being indexed in the search engines. Remember that search engine technology such as Google has become very advanced so using tired, rehashed articles, duplicate or simply irrelevant junk content is a futile exercise and will do nothing for your search engine ranking or your online credibility. Also try to connect with your reader by providing valuable information and address the problem that they are seeking to find answers to. These are the types of visitors you can turn into paying customers.
Aim to produce articles in the range of 300 to 600 words, preferably at the upper end of this range. This gives you the best chance of getting suitable keyword density without losing the interest of your reader. Each directory has their own guidelines for article publishers so make sure that you familiarize yourself with their guidelines so as to avoid the likelihood of your article being rejected. The majority of article directories also allow publishers to add a small footer or “resource box” to their articles. This lets you add a link back to your website to promote your products or services and to invite readers to visit your website. This is the main motivation for publishing your articles as it provides you with targeted and motivated traffic. To get the most out of your article marketing campaign you need to aim to send between 5 to 10 articles per week to the article directories.
Well crafted and informative articles that capture the attention of your readers are what you need to aim for. It is unlikely that a few articles are going to deliver an income for life but as you continue to submit articles to directories, over time you will increase the volume of traffic arriving to your website. Successful article marketers regularly and consistently submit articles and realize that it is a longer term plan to conquer their specific niche. Another valuable purpose of article marketing is to use for so called “offsite” SEO. Internet Marketers and SEO experts universally recognize the value of “backlinks”, that is links that lead back to your own web site. It is probably best to submit your articles to the top 10 or 20 article directories initially.
Here is a list of 10 directories to get you started with your article marketing campaign:
http://www.ezinearticles.com http://www.articlesfactory.com http://www.goarticles.com http://www.articledashboard.com http://www.articlebase.com http://www.buzzle.com http://www.articlewheel.com http://www.articlecity.com http://www.planetarticle.com http://www.helium.com
There are various schools of thought about which article directories to send articles to, whether to go for quantity over quality or vice versa. In the end it is a personal choice and will depend on whether you are simply aiming to get backlinks or to drive organic traffic. From what I have seen the top article directories will deliver you the most organic traffic in a shorter period of time, but in the longer term because of the sheer volume of articles in these directories they may also fall off the index faster.
