Do You Know The History Of The Teddy Bear?

January 22nd, 2010 No comments

Everyone had a favorite stuffed toy as a child and fond nostalgia makes some adults become collectors, especially in the case of Steiff stuffed animals.

They are in high demand by collectors when available at fairs and auctions, namely stuffed bears.

The legend of Steiff stuffed animals started sometime in 1880 in Germany, in the town of Giengen an der Brenz.

Margarete Steiff, a wheelchair bound seamstress, made toy animals from her own designs as a hobby.

She designed and created cute animals, such as cats, dogs, pigs and elephants.

The world famous stuffed animals of Steiff that we know of today began with the idea of adding jointed limbs to a toy bear by Richard Steiff, Margarete’s nephew.

This bear with jointed limbs became popular worldwide, and as a result, it was the winner at the World Exhibition that was held in 1094 in St. Louis.

It became known as a teddy bear, as in honor of President Teddy Roosevelt.

Steiff is well known for its superior quality stuffed animals, and they are still produced today in the town of Giengen.

Today, Giengen is the location of the Steiff factory and Adventure museum, and the town is a mecca for those who are fans and collectors of stuffed animals.

By visiting the Adventure museum, you can learn about the history of Steiff creations and visit a great gift shop that features the latest bears along with reproductions of classic bears, browse through historic catalogues and view fantastic creations made from porcelain.

The Classic range by Steiff is considered the top of the line, featuring Steiff stuffed animals that are hand made.

Some designs date back to teddy bears from 1906, 1909 and 1920.

There is also a special creation that features a Valentine Heart, making it a very romantic present for a loved one.

The range also includes characters from the Beatrix Potter stories, including Peter Rabbit and the Mrs. Tiggy Winkle hedgehog.

One of my favorites is the Paddington Bear design, that is all dressed up in his traditional blue hat and red duffel coat.

The majority of Steiff baby animals are created with babies and toddlers in mind.

They are made from durable materials and include teddy bears, kittens and lambs.

The Cosy Animal collection features animals that are machine washable along with clothing, keyrings, bags and gift sets for children.

The Limited Edition Steiff stuffed animals contain pink and gray replica versions of the 1908 teddy bear.

This selection also includes a Pierrot Bear, a Moon Bear and a fantastic Grizzly Bear.

Another one of my favorites in this range is the famous character from story books, the Rubert Bear.

However, the teddy bear will continue to be the toy that is most associated with the Steiff Company.

Choosing a Miele Canister Vacuum for Your Home

January 22nd, 2010 No comments

The major criteria involved with choosing a canister vacuum cleaner is what floor surfaces you plan to clean versus the power of the vacuum. Almost all canister vacuum cleaners offer 3 choices of tools for the surfaces of floors, a bare floor hard plastic brush about ten or twelve inches wide with soft bristles, a turbo brush that features a spinning drum roller with harder bristles, or a power head brush that is similar to the turbo brush although it is powered by a seperate motor.

Both the turbo brush and power head brush vacuums have a spinning drum roller with bristles that resemble that of an upright vacuum cleaner. While the brushes perform pretty much the same, the power head brush vacuum has a separate motor that turns the brush on the bottom of it, therefore making it powerful and much more aggressive than the turbo type brush that is turned by the flow of air being pulled past it.

Miele has a full line of canister vacuums with many different feature that make vacuuming a simple, clean, and pleasanty experience. With a wide range of different brush-head attachments, it is easier to clean larger areas on a variety of floor surfaces, while not adding to your workload or making it any harder to reach into different rooms.

The S5280 Callisto comes with all the tools to get the job done, including a natural bristle dusting brush, a crevice tool (to get in those pesky corners,) and an upholstery tool, tending to all of your cleaning needs.

A 1200-watt Vortex motor system, combined with active HEPA filtration and sealed system construction means that your floors will be clean, but your air will be too.

With a 29-foot working radius, and 360-degree rotating casters, cleaning larger areas is a breeze, and you won’t have to be dragging it around from room to room. An onboard indicator that let’s you know when the bags and the filter need to be changed individually makes it easy to maintain, and the ease of use makes it evenm easier to own.
