A Shopper’s Guide to Pendant Lights

December 30th, 2009 No comments

Lighting is a key ingredient when designing any room in your home or even outside the house. Mini pendant lights, also known as hanging lights can change the ambiance when installed in your home.

Pendant lights come in many different styles, from contemporary to traditional styles. Of course, the type of lighting fixture you choose is just a matter of preference.

If your house is modern, you’ll probably end up with a beautiful stainless steel or brass finished pendant. I’ve seen some incredible contemporary designs, specifically the way the glass or steel is cut.

Traditional pendants usually have a bit more to them when it comes to the design of the glass. Tiffany style pendants are very popular when searching for traditional pendants. Everyone loves stained glass and I will guarantee people will notice these beautiful colored pendants in your home.

Pendant lights can be placed in many different rooms throughout the home, office or even outside the house. If you have high ceilings in your foyer, that’s a great spot for a pendant or multiple pendants; it will have a similar effect as a chandelier. It’s lovely to notice this as the first thing when entering a home.

The most popular room in the home to see pendants hanging is in the kitchen. I love seeing these lights over the counter tops or the kitchen table. Not only does it add some light to the kitchen, but it adds a beautiful look. A great option for the counter tops are island style pendants.

They’re also found in the game room, perhaps over a billiards table. If they’re over a gaming table, they can hang a bit lower than in a kitchen. Same as if installed at a work space. You want enough light from the pendants so they should be installed closer to the table.

When having these lights installed, make sure they’re hanging high enough. It’s not fun having to re-do them once they’re in, so please make sure they’re at least 30′ to 40′ from the surface.

A Review of the Furnace Heat Exchanger

December 28th, 2009 No comments

A furnace heat exchanger is an important part of a furnace. This is made of a metal sheet with tubes and cylindrical notches. Its function is to disintegrate fire from the air stream. One thing you need to consider when purchasing a furnace is how strong the heat exchanger is. Remember that if your heat exchanger is damaged, it is dangerous for the health of the people inside the house.

If the heat exchanger is damaged, the fire will roll out and will get mixed in the air stream, eventually inhaled by the people inside the house. Pick a furnace that has a heat exchanger made of good quality and one that does not rust immediately.

A furnace heat exchanger that is poorly made, will result in a possible leakage from the coil in the air conditioning unit, damage to the material inside and a possible fire. A combustion blower can help to prevent any of this as well; it has 80 percent efficiency and 92 percent efficiency if you have a condensing furnace.

With both the blower and the condensing furnace, flue items would not be able to get into the air that we breathe. Make frequent checks on the heat exchanger. Damage could be from dropping it during shipment, installation, the unit overheating, or poorly made material that couldn’t pass quality inspections.

Thinking of safety, you need to buy a unit that will give you the safety guidelines openly. Try not to buy brands that have this information hidden or unclear. You can check on your furnace’s information by going online to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. If the furnace is not a silver like color and it turns to blue or appears to be discolored then the furnace exchanger will need to be immediately replaced as soon as possible.
