Reasons To Buy Automatic Pet Feeders

October 21st, 2010 No comments

Pets are a great addition to most families. Dogs are loyal and loving, and cats are often great companions that can curl up on your lap when needed, but don’t require as much attention if you have a very active lifestyle. Dogs and cats are not the only types of pets though, as some like things like fish, turtles, or amphibians that are not very cuddly, but fulfill something in us that we need. Whatever your pet, there are going to be times when you must go away and you want to know that they are cared for, and automatic pet feeders are just one way to make going away much less stressful on your pet.

Automatic pet feeders can not be used for dogs if you want to go away for a few days. Dogs simply can not be left alone that long. They need constant attention. If you leave them alone, they will probably tear up your home because they want to know where you are. They need to be walked for going to the bathroom and also to get some of that crazy energy out. However, you can use pet feeders for them while you are out for the day. These can feed a certain amount at a given time so they get lunch if you can not make it home to feed them.

Cats, on the other hand, can really use automatic pet feeders if you have to go away for a few days. These can dole out as much food as they may need for a feeding. Most cats should have one cup of food a day. You can have one that gives half a cup twice a day, or one cup once a day, whichever way your pet prefers to eat. If you have a litter box for them, and a supply of fresh water, they can usually be left alone for a few days without any problems. Kittens are the exception, but grown cats are very self sufficient.

Fish are another type of pet that you can leave alone for a few days with automatic pet feeders. As long as they are not overfed, they can do well being alone for a few days with a food supply. As long as you have fish that are in a filtered environment and you do not have to worry about changing the water while you are gone, you can find feeders just for your fish. Some of these are very simple, being a chunk that slowly dissolves and feeds them for a few days,or an electronic feeder that does a feeding just like you would.

Not all animals can be fed with automatic pet feeders, but if you have one that can be, you can go away any time you like. If you are going to be away for a few more days, it does get a bit more tricky. See if you can find someone to check in on your pets just to make sure the automatic feeder is working as it should and that all is well with your beloved pet otherwise. These feeders range from very inexpensive to intricate and costly, but get what works for your pet. You want them safe and secure while you are away for a while, and this is one of the best ways to ensure they are cared for in your absence.

Dog Fountain Options

If you have a large dog you might be a bit leary of adding a pet fountain to your home. After all, large dogs can really do some damage and some of these fountains don’t look like they can stand up to the workload a big dog can bring. But there are a couple of options that are specifically made form homes with larger dogs. If you take the time and find the fountain that is right for you and your home, you can really positively impact your dog’s health as well as your peace of mind.

Especially in summertime, it is very important that we make sure our dogs get plenty of water. remember, these animals are walking around in a fur coat and they can overheat very easily. While dogs are not nearly as picky as cats, we still have to do better than give them a bowl of water on the floor of the house. This bowl will accumulate hair and debris throughout the day, and after a while a dog will just choose to go take a nap rather than drink from his bowl. if you are at work all day it is very easy to imagine your dog getting overheated and/or dehydrated.

One of the best dog fountains is the Dog It Fresh And Clear large Dog Fountain. This fountain is designed for large dogs, yet t uses the same basic design of the small cat fountains made by Hagen, the parent company that manufactures them. The fountain is made up of a large bowl that it topped by a globe. Once the main bowl is filled with water, the weight and center of gravity are such that your large dog will not be able to turn this fountain over. the top is a smooth rounded globe and there is simply no way for a dog to get leverage and dump it. At the same time, your dog will love licking the water off the globe as it falls to the main bowl below. The water is pumped from the bowl up through the inside of the globe and out the top. Many dogs like to drink from this small fountain of water. From there the water covers the globe and falls down to the main bowl, only to have the whole process repeated again.

The addition of a dog fountain can make a real difference in the health of your dog and your own peace of mind. if you have a large dog, don’t be afraid to add a pet fountain to your home. Your dog will be healthier and you will be happier, guaranteed.

Choosing a good boarding kennel

July 30th, 2010 No comments

Leaving your pet while you go away on business or on vacation can be a stressful experience all round.  You will worry that no-one can care for him like you can and that he will be miserable and anxious without you.  One of the best ways to ensure that you don’t spend your holiday worrying about him is to make sure that you choose the best dog boarding kennels available in your area.

Start by making a list of the names and addresses of all dog kennels in your local area.  Both the internet and local newspapers will be a useful source of information.  Once you have done this then ask around friends and people you meet while out walking your dog whether they have heard of any of them.  Take note of any that are recommended and cross out any that have bad stories attached to them.

Once you have your shortlist then make an appointment to go and visit.  Make sure that you get a full guided tour so that you can check on the cleanliness of the runs and can see how content the animals there are.  If every dog kennel houses a miserable, whining dog then beware.  Check on what would happen if your dog fell ill in the middle of the night and whether they have a policy of checking that occupants are up to date with their jabs.

Find out how frequently the dogs are exercised and their runs cleaned out.  Some kennels will have added extras like a dog groomer who will wash and brush your dog on the day before you are due to collect him or the opportunity for your dog to play with others who are staying at the kennels too.

Only once you are fully satisfied with the level of care on offer should you book your dog in for his stay.
