A Camper Awning For Better Camping

July 18th, 2010 No comments

Going on a camping vacation this summer with the family and want a way to keep the sun off the kids while everyone can still enjoy the fresh air? Its a good idea to attach a camper awning to your vehicle when you stop for the evening so that you have a ready made outdoor area that can be use for dining and relaxing.

When the weather is too hot you don’t want to have the air con running all the time so providing some much needed shade is always a good idea.

Start shopping for an awning and you will see that there are a number of different shapes and sizes available so its shouldn’t be too difficult to find one that works with your particular vehicle. You should make sure however that you give some thought to the design you purchase so that you get one that is the correct size for the family.

Once you know what size you need you can examine the possible options with regard to the material used in its construction. Think about how often you are going to use your product so that you understand how durable you need the awning to be.

Once you have decided on these important considerations you can think about the more cosmetic things such as how many windows and doors you want your design to have. Some models even have zip up windows which will allow you to close them over is you want close out the light or even use the area for sleeping.

Learn all about the features available in the campervan awnings and you will see that they are a great idea for anyone who wants to make the most of their future camping trips. You can’t beat having a nice cool place to hang out when the sun gets a little too hot.

Shark Fishing

July 7th, 2010 No comments

When talking about shark fishing, you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that it is a lot like regular fishing. It takes time, but it has also been adopted into American culture as one of the newest weekend outdoor adventures.

Depending on where you go, the water temperature has a lot to do with whether the water will be populated or not. In places like Montauk, it’s June. To correctly choose the right water, try to find warmer waters in winter and colder waters in summer.

Where should you fish for sharks? Well, that all depends on where exactly you are located. Most places, it’s ideal to fish past the 10 mile mark. You can look for sharks if you know where other small fish are. Some people enjoy shark fishing, which is fishing for sharks right off the shore. Some say it’s one of the most rewarding types of shark fishing because you’re in the heat of the battle with the shark. Some states (like Hawaii) even offer midnight shark fishing experiences for those who seek some serious adrenaline.

Most fisherman will go out on the waters with an idea of what they want to fish for. Mako, the popular blue shark and Tiger sharks are most appealing to shark fishing. When hunting a blue shark, generally look at cooler waters. The Mako is a warm water shark. These sharks should only be fished if you are experienced as they are very dangerous sharks. Look for tiger sharks in shallow water, and also be prepared for a struggle.

When deciding on good bait for shark fishing, you must know what you’re fishing for. Is it a bigger shark or a smaller one? You can buy a tie on shark rig and just use small fishes or even shrimp to bait your shark.

Either way, you’re in for a fun hobby.

12v Refrigerator

June 24th, 2010 No comments

Anyone who is their market for a car fridge will soon come to the realization they have two basic options available.  The first is an absorption three-way fridge, and the second is a compression technology 12v refrigerator.  Below is a summation of the suitability of these two alternatives for use in a car or off-road vehicle, and an explanation of why a compression type 12v fridge is most likely the more appropriate choice.

Absorption 3-way Refrigeration

Pros – can run on propane or electricity, moderately price.

Cons – requires level surface to operate correctly, highly inefficient when powered electrically, not good as a car freezer

Compression 12v Refrigeration

Pros – operates when not leveled, very efficient running 12v, can function as a freezer.

Cons – does not run gas, models are relatively expensive

Which To Choose?

As you can see above, each type has its respective advantages and disadvantaged.  But when considered solely for use a vehicle refrigerator, the compression 12v fridge freezer is the clear winner.

You cannot run a fridge off propane while driving a vehicle, this would be highly dangerous.  This eliminates the 3-way fridges greatest advantage.  When you have a fridge in your car, it will be powered by 12v DC – most likely your vehicles battery.  The compression models are much more energy efficient for this application than the absorption units.

If you want frozen goods in your vehicle the 12v fridge wins against the 3-way models yet again. Also, will you ever take your vehicle off-road? Here again the 12v fridge – with its ability top operate off level – wins again.

The only real advantages a 3-way fridge has over a 12v model is you gain the extra flexibility of being able to power the unit with LPG, and they can cost a little less up front.  If you are looking for a generic camping fridge, gaining the ability to use gas and saving a little money can possibly be worth giving up some of the other benefits of a 12v fridge.  However, if you truly are looking for a car fridge specifically, a 12v fridge is definitely the best choice.
