Finding A Tent For Camping Solo

September 20th, 2010 No comments

Anyone looking for a nice peaceful weekend outside should consider camping.  You don’t need to have a group of people to go camping with, although this is definitely safer if you aren’t used to camping, you just need a tent and some basic camping gear.  You can easily get a cheap 1 man tent and go camping by yourself.  For solo campers you have a few options on different types of camping tents you can get.

When you are camping by yourself you need to make sure you can handle the set up of your tent.  Fortunately, there are plenty of options to choose from and most tents you purchase are very easy to set up.  Many of them today even have color coded tent poles so if the directions don’t make much sense you should be able to figure it out pretty easily.

One of the biggest factors you will have to consider when you get your tent is how much you want it to weigh.  Do you need to hike with it, if so you will want to find as light of a tent as possible because you will need every pound that you can for other camping gear.  It is very easy to find inexpensive tents that are around 5 pounds or less and this is going to be crucial when you are backpacking because of all of the other things you have to bring with you.

If you choose to go with a 1 man tent you can use either a bike tent or a bivy tent or sack.  Any of these options will be lightweight as they eliminate the need for tent poles.  The bike tent is perfect for anyone who is camping with their bike because they can use the wheel as the main support of the tent.  However, if you want quick access to your bike you aren’t going to be able to get it with a bike tent since your wheel is going to be supporting the tent.  So you will have to take down the whole tent and put the wheel back on your bike before you can go use your bike again.  Bivy tents on the other hand are very small, and similar to a sleeping bag.  They are a good option if your main goal is to keep the bugs out and have something to cover you but they are a bad option if you want some breathing space.

A Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner Makes Camping Warm and Cozy

A fleece sleeping bag liner can make a camper feel warm and cozy. They add comfort to a sleeping bag and aid the camper in having a good night’s rest. This product is used for a variety of camping situations; in a tent outside, in a pop-up trailer, or in a cabin with limited heating.

Sleeping bags are designed to keep in the warmth; however, weather sometimes is much warmer in the daytime than at night. It can become quite chilly and campers who have prepared for the change in temperature will have a more pleasant camping experience. Adding additional warmth to the sleeping bag is only one of many benefits of products made with fleece material.

One important aspect of fleece material is its breathability. Campers can wear heavy thermal clothes inside the liner and their skin will still be able to breathe, maintaining its health. Fleece is soft to the touch and few people are allergic to it. The material is lightweight, making it easily folded or rolled, and effortlessly carried in a backpack. This makes it attractive for additional comfort in remote camping.

After a weekend trip, or a week-long vacation, the fleece liner can be thrown into the washer for a fast and easy cleaning. The material dries quickly; enabling a camper who has access to water to simply give it a rinse and hang it out to dry for a refreshed sleep bag.

Prices for a fleece sleep sack liner are reasonable and affordable for campers who want that extra assurance of a warm night’s sleep. The majority of the available brands cost $30 or less. Finding the bag liner is also easy. Retailers that sell outdoor or camping gear and supplies, sporting goods shops and specialty outdoor supplies stores all offer fleece liners. The liners usually come in a variety of thicknesses and color choices; making it easy to coordinate the liner with the outer sleeping bag.

Picnic Sets For Those With Elegant Tastes

August 7th, 2010 No comments

It’s a hot summer day, many outdoor activities abound, and among your friends, it’s your turn to entertain them.  Having dinner indoors in sweltering heat doesn’t sound inviting.  Why not try something different?  Plan an outdoor picnic at a park in the afternoon!  Chances are that you’ve been to dinners where the host’s finest dinnerware was put out.  Although picnicking may seem like a very casual activity, you can actually plan a very elegant picnic that can rival anything you could put on at home but with a more relaxing, less stuffy ambiance.  On a hot summer afternoon, that is a welcome change.  There are picnic sets you can buy to help you do just that?

Picnic sets for a more elegant gathering are certainly not in short supply.  By going to such websites as picnicfun.com or picnicworld.com, you can find a wide assortment of picnic sets suited for such a picnic gathering.  Picnic sets of this type are not surprisingly expensive than a set you would by for a day at the beach or for a hiking trip.  Some might consider picnic sets with fine amenities as counter to what picnics should be about, however, picnics can also be a substitute for a dinner party indoors.  An elegant picnic allows you to offer good home prepared food with fine dinnerware to serve them on.

Picnic sets for a more elegant gathering are usually priced at above $100.00.  At picnicfun.com, for example, you can purchase a premium basket set for an intimate gather of 4 people that is priced at $250.00.   This particular one is called the Windsor Picnic Basket for 4.  Contained in a suitcase sized willow basket are 4 porcelain plates, hand blown drinking glasses, stainless steel utensils, a stainless steel cheese cutter with a cutting board, and many compartments to store food and keep it fresh.  Included in this set is a fleece ground blanket you can use if you will not be sitting at a table.  Unquestionably, picnic sets like this one are made to impress guests at a picnic.  The items contained in the set probably rival any fine dinnerware you have at home.

This picnic set just described is one example of an elegant picnic set.  It is the most expensive of all the picnic sets found on picnicfun.com.  For a larger group of six people, you can also buy an elegant set for $120.00.   This is obviously cheaper because it comes with fewer amenities.  The dinnerware, however, consists of ceramic plates and a nice set of flatware, napkins, utensils, and a salt and pepper shaker set.  Though the amenities are fewer, it is still an elegant set and serves more people.  Knowing how many you’re inviting to an elegant picnic you’re hosting may be a determining factor in what to buy.
