I never seem to have enough gold in Warcraft. Kill mob, loot mob. Then its hope that something valuable turns up that either improves my ability to kill mobs, or is worth a few more gold pieces at the auction house. But when you are saving for that next big purchase. An epic flying mount perhaps, then it seems as if you’ll never have enough gold.
But that can be a grind. Warcraft leveling is made a little quicker if you have the best equipment, and of course you want the bragging rights that go with looking and playing as well as you can.
Maybe, like me, you have had a look through the web at the number of gold guides for WoW that are currently available. And maybe, like me, the advertising and websites for these guides leaves you a little confused.
Here is a list of the five do’s and don’ts when considering buying a Warcraft gold guide…
1 – Make sure the guide is up to date. Simply mentioning Wrath of the Lich King does not mean the guide is current. The 3.0 expansion is well over a year old, and the changes that have taken place in game in that time would make any guide that had not been updated pretty useless. Make sure the guide is right up to date. Wrath of the Lich King is not good enough as an indicator any more.
2 – Make sure you get an idea of what the guide actually contains. The advertising for most gold making systems is very negative. They like to tell you how bad other guides are, then show you absolutely nothing of the guide they expect you to buy. You are lucky if they give you an example of the menu system “We are laid out like this” Yes great. That’s really helpful. What about the guide? You know the thing you are trying to sell? Where is it? Are you ashamed to show it?
How about going to a car showroom, and the salesman won’t let you in? He is trying to talk you into buying his car, but he won’t show you what they look like. He keeps droning on about how bad other cars are. Would you buy like that in the world outside the internet? I’m pretty certain I wouldn’t.
3 – Be wary of massive claims of in game wealth. In December 2009 Blizzard stated in an interview published both on their own forum’s and at wow.com that no-where on any realm or on any server has any anyone got two players to gold cap on a single account.
It has never happened, and given the fact that you would run out of things to use the gold for (at least things that are within the ToS of the game), why would anyone bother anyway?
If you see a guide advertised with these claims, then I direct you to Blizzards interview of 19th December 2009. Blizzard, the games producers. The people who own and manage every official WoW server, say it has never happened. Make your own mind up.
You could, of course, mock up a few characters on a private server to make it look like they were at gold cap. That would be very simple. Private servers tend to be very laggy (as they are run on a shoestring budget) so that might be an aspect to look out for. If you were keen you could even set up a server client on yogurt own PC.
Ask yourself this. If someone is going to promote a product they have designed, that has taken them weeks to make, that they hope will be an important part of their income in the following months or even years…wouldn’t they wait to shoot the promotional video until a time when the real server wasn’t having massive lag? I mean if it’s that important, shouldn’t they wait and shoot your Youtube video a few minutes later? Of course, if they are on a private server that is always laggy, they would have no choice
Also, they might want to take care when making claims on a promotional video for the product that did not tie in with what viewers could clearly see on screen. Saying things like “I’m having orange lag” is not a good idea when the lag monitor icon in the task bar of Warcraft is clearly in view, and obviously green. Another tip might be not to introduce alt’s as “Level 1 auction house alt”, when a quick look at the characters task bar shows skills and talents that aren’t available to level one characters. Just something to consider when viewing these videos. If you spot these irregularities draw your own conclusions about the product and services offered
4 – Do check that you have a full return guarantee. Guides should offer this as a matter of course. If it doesn’t mention it on the page, you aren’t getting one. Make sure the shop front that is being used is a reputable one such as Pay Pal or Clickbank.
5 – See if the huge list of bonus items being offered is really worth it. Many of the extras are described as things that you could probably get from Thottbot or WoWWiki anyway, (for free). The best guides offer you some extra’s you couldn’t just google and find for free yourself in five minutes.
Good luck and happy gold hunting.
