Get a Flatter Belly with Abdominal Exercise Equipment

October 19th, 2010 No comments

Like many women, I had trouble losing weight after having kids. Prior to pregnancy, I had always been very fit and trim, and could eat practically anything I wanted without having to worry about the consequences (in terms of my waistline). But how things have changed now! It seems that I’ve been struggling for years to lose the last five pounds of extra fat that I gained during when I was pregnant. Most of that weight is concentrated in my belly, giving me a very noticeable paunch that gets in the way of wearing sexy clothes. I clearly need to add some abdominal exercise equipment to my routine.

Since I’ve been trying to slim down, I closely watch what I eat. I’m on a low-carb, low-fat diet, and do not eat packaged chips, cookies, crackers, or similar junk food. I also work out six days per week, alternating between running four miles outdoors and going to the gym to hit the Stairmaster and weights. From what I’ve read, this kind of routine should absolutely allow me to return to my old fit and trim self. But that’s not happening, which is why I’m going to buy abdominal exercise equipment to use at home.

There are many different types of abdominal exercise equipment available today, so it could take a while for me to settle on a particular product. Some of the abdominal exercise equipment I’ve seen is sold via late-night infomercials and seems pretty gimmicky. I’m obviously going to stay away from that stuff because I’m not interested in wasting money.

Instead, I want something that will help me work my core without straining my back or neck the way traditional sit-ups or crunches can. Whenever I try to incorporate sit-ups or crunches, I end up having to stop just a week or two later because my back simply cannot take the strain. I know there are some advanced pieces of abdominal exercise equipment that can target my abs and core without taxing my back muscles too much. These are the products I need to check out ASAP.

First I’ll probably head down to the local sports store to see what kind of abdominal exercise equipment they have in stock. There usually isn’t a huge selection in places like that, but they’re likely to carry the most popular products and at least I’ll be able to give the machine a test run. Next, I’ll probably read some reviews of different machines to see what has worked for other people. Then once I find something I want to buy, I can browse online for bigger discounts or whatever.

I’m tired of this bulging belly and the constant dieting I’m putting myself through in order to lose a lousy five pounds and firm up my abs. I think the answer here is to use abdominal exercise equipment for something like this instead of just jogging and using the Stairmaster. Hopefully I can find something effective!

Understanding Teenage Depression

October 15th, 2010 No comments

Teenage depression is common among the young adults and can be detrimental to their lives if left untreated. Many a time, teenagers get irritable and also experience many bouts of sadness out of the imbalances that come with this stage. It is usually a handful and they may feel stressed out by the events taking place in their immediate environments. There are several causes of teen depression that vary from one teenager to another. The most common ones are the maturation process they are going through. Some of these changes include acne, menstruation for girls, enlargement of breasts among others and wet dreams and breaking of voice for the boys. They also start experiencing attractions to the opposite sex and this is clearly a defining stage. A break up with a partner can therefore cause tremendous stress to either party and this may lead into teenage depression.

Teenagers also start feeling independent and therefore conflict with their parents if they appear to be controlling. Teenagers are in a very sensitive phase where most of them tend to loose their self-esteem through constant comparison of themselves with their peers. They have a great desire to fit into some social class and this may drive them into depression if they experience rejection. Other causes of teenage depression include low grades at school, disturbing events such as death of a close person as well as an unstable home where they have witnessed divorce or abuse. It is sometimes hard to tell if a teenager is depressed due to the fluctuations they experience in their moods. They experience bouts of ‘on top of the world’ and those of ‘life sucks’ and this makes it hard to diagnose depression.

The major symptoms of teenage depression include feelings of hopelessness, withdrawal, constant headaches, compulsive eating, or loss of appetite, sadness, fatigue, drug abuse, suicidal thoughts, stomachaches, criminal behavior, excessive sleeping, and promiscuous sexual behavior among others. Teenage depression must be treated fast as it can harm the young adult in a big way. It is therefore important to consult a local therapist as soon as possible on what action to take towards treating this condition. Therapy helps a lot since most of the teenage depression causes are attitudinal. Therapists counsel the teenagers about the issues they are faced with and this helps them ease up and take them in their stride.

They reassure them that all that is happening to them is normal and will get better with age since this is a transition phase. The therapists also guide the teenagers on honing their interpersonal and social skills and this helps them relate better with others. They also take them through problem solving skills as well as positive thinking. In other cases, medications to cure depression are administered. These include antidepressants such as the SSRI fluoxetine (Prozac). Teenagers on these antidepressants must however be monitored closely since a major side effect that comes with these drugs is suicidal behavior. Alternative treatments are thus better and these include therapy that revolves on behavioral change.

Benefits of High Fiber Cereals

You have probably been seeing a lot of commercials on television lately about high fiber foods. There are a lot of claims out there about what fiber can do for you, and with so many foods claims being dismissed as untrue, it can be hard to believe the good things you hear about high fiber cereals and other foods. Unlike fad diets and various exotic foods that make untrue claims, there are very real and very good benefits to high fiber in any form. Cereal just happens to be one of the best and most tasty ways to get that fiber into your system each day.

Most of the claims you hear about high fiber are true. This is not a new thing, it is just a time when people have finally decided to pay attention to what simple foods that contain high fiber can do. Fiber is often going to go through your system undigested. That is why fiber carbs are not the same as sugar carbs. They will leave your blood sugar stable, and they digest much more slowly, if at all. This leaves you feeling fuller longer, another benefit that also help with blood sugar control. That may seem like a concern for someone with diabetes, but if you want to lose weight, a steady sugar also curbs your appetite. High fiber cereals are a great way to start the day.

High fiber cereals are going to help you avoid snacking between breakfast and lunch. It also give you energy and allows you to function without getting too drowsy. Don’t forget that cereal can do this for you any time of the day. If you do need a late night snack, a high fiber cereal with very low sugar content can help you curb your craving, fill you up, and will put you down for a good night of sleep.

One thing that you may not want to talk about is your colon health, but high fiber cereals can help you with this. This only helps in a small way, but it can help. Your colon can collect materials that can be problematic, and a colon cleanse is not always a good idea. This can get rid of good things you need inside, messing up your system. High fiber foods will help clean out your intestinal tract by wrapping around debris and carrying them out of your body. It’s not fun to talk about, but it is a benefit worth considering. It’s a small help, but any help is good.

One thing about high fiber cereals you may not know is that they taste really good. Not every type is good or to everyone’s taste, but there are so many out there you can find one that you are going to love. You may not have thought to give them a try in the past, but they are worth it for your health. The healthy cereals of today are miles apart from the ones you tried as a kid. Fiber is not going to completely change your health or turn your weight worries around, but they can be an important tool in your arsenal.
