Why Women Need Jewelry Boxes
I am not a big knick knack collector. My home and decorative style is very simple and I like to keep it that way. That is why I never purchased a jewelry box. I thought it was just another decorative item for my home that I would have to dust without serving any functional purpose. Instead of storing my jewelry in a neatly organized jewelry box, I would store my jewelry in the top drawer of my dresser. All of my earring, necklaces, rings and other items would float around in my dresser drawer without any real organization or would be stored in one of the many small cardboard boxes that I saved from my original purchases. Therefore, jewerly boxes were considered unnecessary items in my mind.
When it was time to go out, I would search through my drawer looking for the necklace that I wanted for the evening. When I finally found it, I would usually spend a few minutes untangling it from the other items around it. As a result, there have been several times when I have damaged and/or broken a necklace while trying to untangle it. I particularly like herring bone necklaces and due to my storage methods and lack of care for my jewelry, I have kinked several herring bone necklaces in my haste to untangle them and get out the door in the morning for work.
Finding a matching pair of earrings was always a battle. For some reason I would always find one quickly, however, the other would always seem to elude me for several minutes. Between all the jewelry and small boxes that I had items tucked away in, I never really knew what I had. At times it would be like Christmas, I would open one of my small cardboard boxes looking for a particular item and instead I would find something else that I had totally forgotten about since it was tucked away in a small box for so long.
Knowing that I did not take care of my jewelry very well, my mother-in-law recently purchased me a wooden jewelry box for my birthday along with a small silver jewelry box to put on my nightstand which she said should be used for my jewelry before going to bed at night so that I did not have to worry about putting it away while I was tired. Initially, I did not like the idea of using my new jewelry box; however, I knew that if I didn’t use it, my mother-in-law would be offended. So during one rainy Saturday afternoon I organized all of my jewelry into my new jewelry box and to my amazement, it has turned out to be a very positive experience.
Since I have started to use my new jewelry box, I realized several things that I think would be of benefit to other women who do not currently use a jewelry box. Most important, I have realized that my jewelry is not getting damaged like it did before. My necklaces are not getting tangled with other items and I am no longer creating kinks in my herring bone necklaces as a result of trying to get them untangled from other items. Second, I am now using a much wider variety of my jewelry than ever before. Now that I can see exactly what I have since it is neatly organized, I no longer have items hidden in small boxes that I forget about until I stumble upon them again. Lastly, I spend a lot less time in the morning trying to find and untangle the jewelry that I want for the day. All of my jewelry is neatly organized and ready to wear. I never thought that using a jewelry box would be beneficial; however, using my new jewelry box has proved to me that it does indeed serve a valid purpose that any woman can benefit from. That is why I believe that every woman needs a jewelry box.
