Facing Job Loss

Many of the questions we’ve seen on the Interviewing message board have shown some of our readers difficulties to get a search started when somebody’s leave job or lose a job. But I thought that this thing is useful for us to start at the beginning.

One thing is very clear about the work culture of the new millennium is that nearly all work is now short term, frequently even careers themselves. You have to prepare for change whether it suits your style or not. If we mention the current statistics so we can see that almost all say that the average job is only about three to four years now, but if we talk about 15 years ago when the average tenure of the job was 10 years.

Whenever you join any new organization it is good to understand well in advance that there will be many ups and down mostly during the first week of you’re joining. This ride will mostly include sadness, lack of interest, denial, anger, and then some more anger. Everyone goes through this stage to one degree or another, and I don’t believe the people who say they don’t

It is not good to call immediately to everyone you know and start sending out resumes, answering ads, and calling recruiters. Because most of the times chances are like that you’re not mentally prepared for the immediately start a search after a separation. Don’t do a job search “on the rebound.” you’ll probably say things that you will wish you hadn’t. It is good to share your true feelings with your loved once – maybe a significant other and/or a friend would be quite enough. You don’t want everyone to avoid you (“Uh oh, here comes the whiner…”). Now’s the time to adopt the marketing stance that your career – no matter how you perceive the reality – has been sunshine, light, and success. And you want everyone to know about those

Networking is not calling to everyone you know. Networking is indirect relationship building, quite a different thing.

Develop a target. Years ago, in my private practice, I was deluged with people announcing, “I want to be in TV.” I never knew what does that meant…. did it mean television repair? Developing a target is the centerpiece of beginning your search. What is the job function- specifically? What is the desired culture? Geographic location? Size of organization? Do you want to start your own business? Consult? Do you have Dot-com-Virus? This may all involve some extensive self-assessment, with or without outside assistance – but it’s necessary.

And then, of course, you need to research your target

Stick to your marketing plan. It is good to work on the system; there are no shortcuts, except for the occasional bolt of lightning. Discipline and consistency account for a lot in this process.

Be flexible. If you’re seriously listening while developing those relationships, your target might adjust and shift.

If you are loosing a job or leaving a job it doesn’t mean the stigma it used to, except in your own mind. Its part of the culture now which everyone has to face one day.

A firm that uses the correct language but lacks the references from your industry will require careful consideration before you make a commitment.

Coaching and training will include a holistic approach that includes implementing change management techniques successfully. The plan that is presented by the strategist will be compelling and easy for all members of your team to understand and implement.

They work with stakeholders within the organization to reduce resistance and provide the tools for leaders to effectively implement change management throughout the organization.

Employment and Jobs In Wichita

Wichita, which is also known as the Air Capital of the World, is the largest city in the state of Kansas. It is also a major aircraft manufacturing hub and cultural center. In 2006, Money magazine and CNN/Money Wichita was ranked ninth on their list of the 10 best big cities to live in the United States. Wichita is the home of McConnell Air Force Base and six companies that manufacture aircraft.

Wichita serves as the county seat of Sedgwick County and is located on the Arkansas River in South Central Kansas. Wichita is home to the National Weather Service Forecast Office which serves parts of southeast, central, and south central Kansas. Wichita is the 51st largest city in the United States with an estimated population of 354,865 in the year 2005.

The Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area encompasses Sumner, Harvey, Butler, and Sedgwick counties, had a 2004 population estimate of 584,671 persons residing in 245,159 households. Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna, Learjet, and Spirit Aerosystems are based in Wichita, and both Boeing and Airbus maintain a work force in Wichita.

The Coleman Company, which produces camping supplies, is also based in Wichita. Wichita is home of the Koch Industries headquarters which the second largest privately held company in the United States. Renewable energy company Alternative Energy Solutions is based in Wichita. The roller coaster manufacturer, Chance Morgan, is also based in Wichita.

One of the primary advantages that Wichita Kansas has to offer to prospective employers is the ready availability of a reliable work force. The unemployment figures for Wichita that are seldom above seven percent which means that Wichita’s workers are regularly and productively employed. It’s no wonder many local jobs are in the aircraft industry with a motto like

Wichita has been an entrepreneurship incubator for a very long time and offers a wide spectrum of opportunities for the career minded for everything from trained professionals to skilled workers to laborers and clerical types. Although the economy has put the crunch on some business, others continue to prosper, including the tourism, retail and service industries, and construction.
