I sell kitchen gadgets and small appliances through an online store. I started out very slowly, keeping a tiny amount of stock in my garage, and reordering products as needed. Over the years, my business has grown to the point where I needed to rent out some warehouse space and hire two full-time employees to cover shipping and handling. I’ve also had to buy more equipment to make sure business is able to run smoothly. The toughest part was trying to find a forklift for sale at a reasonable price.

Few businesses of my size would ever need to look for a used forklift for sale, but because my warehouse is so small, we have to stack products vertically instead of horizontally. When I first started checking into forklifts, I was a bit taken aback by how expensive they are. Purchasing a new one was out of the question because my budget simply wouldn’t allow for it. I briefly considered renting one instead of buying, but after crunching the numbers, I figured that would just be throwing good money away. My best option was to find a used forklift for sale at a price that I could afford.

I first scoured the classified ads in my local newspapers. While I did come across a forklift for sale here and there, I wasn’t overly impressed by the condition the vehicles were in. The price was right, but I couldn’t risk having the thing break down and then be on the hook for repairs and lost productivity. I had to keep looking, so I decided to see if I could uncover a forklift for sale online.

This turned out to be a bonanza, as I came across plenty of websites, classified sites, and auction sites where I could buy cheap industrial equipment of all kinds. True, I was primarily interested in a used forklift for sale, but if I could also score some good deals on desks, chairs, or warehouse shelving, I would certainly take advantage of the bargains!

Anyway, to make a long story short, I ended up getting one of the newer model Toyota forklifts for what I was willing to spend. I also made sure to convert the warranty over to my business name, and got the seller to throw in a couple of training sessions for my drivers. All in all, I was pretty happy with the transaction and haven’t had any mechanical problems to speak of thus far (knock on wood).

Well, it definitely took some extra legwork to find a forklift for sale in my area, but I eventually got it done and closed the deal. Now I’ll be able to utilize my warehouse space more effectively, my workers will have an easier time loading trucks, and we’ll enjoy increased productivity all around.

It’s fair to say that companies have come such a long way in recent decades. In the past, the sole focus of businesses was to increase profitability and make sure that products and services are marketed correctly. These days, these things are still important, but companies are looking beyond them and focusing on different factors that signify success and the achievement of goals. People are also being prioritized, from the community in which they work to the welfare of employees to the satisfaction of their customers. After all, it’s the people who make a business run and also patronize whatever you have to offer.

More programs are being developed to satisfy people’s needs. When it comes to employees, balancing their lives and work is encouraged, and their well being is being addressed, as well as giving them the opportunity to work wherever it is most convenient for them—the concept of the nine-to-five workday is taking beating, being replaced in favour of a flexible system that still promotes productivity yet allows workers to be with their families at the same time.

Serving the community is also an important keystone in companies’ success nowadays. You not only have to make sure that you give them best possible products you can offer, but also make sure that they are being treated right, with projects to help them improve their lives and their healthy, as well as that of the place where you are operating.

A major step in a company’s success is customer satisfaction. Listening to what customers think and have to say will be a real advantage for you, because this helps you tailor your products and services accordingly and give them what they want. Being concerned for their welfare and addressing their complaints promptly will also set you apart from your competitors.

Such factors should be kept track of. The markers of success are no longer devoted exclusively to numbers—from profits to rankings in the industry to stock value—but also in how a company caters to the needs of people. Live scorecard systems include this as a way to measure success and track progress, along with the traditional factors, and businesses look to these in order to analyze where they’ve made some improvements and which aspects still need to be enhanced. Having a live scorecard will present you with a clearer idea of advancement you have already made and even provide you with some suggestions how your company can grow.

As companies are struggling to turn a profit in this waning economy, more and more are looking to determine goals and metrics that will help them succeed. Recently, key performance indicators (KPIs) seem to be mentioned frequently when talking about how to lead a successful business in a down economy.

Companies just catching wind of this idea often look for examples of KPI to get them started. This is an excellent idea and some examples will be included below. However, it should be mentioned that another company’s metrics aren’t necessarily going to be a good fit for your company and your organization.

Some companies trying to implement a good KPI system have simply stolen these key indicators from other companies and then they have been sorely disappointed when they didn’t see huge gains. Setting KPIs for your company is not as simple as imitation. You need to look at your company’s core values, strategy, and culture. Once you have all of these in mind it is a good idea to set up some indicators that will lead your business to success.

KPI Examples

For Sales Staff:

- Number of leads turned into actual sales (Conversion Rate)
- Number of leads generated
- Length of time customer stays with the company after the initial sale (this metric helps weed out unethical sales staff)

For Customer Service:

- Length of time customers have to wait on the phone
- Time customers have to spend until issue is resolved
- Number of customer referring to customer service for the reason they decided to terminate their business with the company.

For Upper Management:

- Net income compared to previous period
- Employee turnover (this metric shows whether management is doing a good job at keeping employees satisfied)
- Stock prices (this is a good metric to show whether management is creating more or less value for stock holders)

The only limit to the number of KPI examples available is our imagination as human beings. For example a school’s KPIs will be very different from a business’s KPIs. Schools are more interested in turning out well-educated students and will measure their own performance based on how students do in the future. Your organization’s KPIs should be tailored to your industry and your specific situation.

The above examples are very generic. The key is to find metrics that work for your company. Once you find those metrics and implement them, you will start to see the gains you seek for your organization.

Gone are the days of utilitarian style chairs with the dark wood frames, vinyl seats and straight wooden arm rests. A quick internet search or glance through catalogs for office chairs will return hundreds of pages offering numerous styles and types.

There are basic office chairs with minimal features, bare bones in comfort and selection for home office or perhaps school usage where strict budgets are in place. These chairs are typically basic black with a chrome base, non-adjustable arm rests and either a solid seat back from the head to the lower back or a curved metal back rest, adjustable by a turning a knob.

Some types of office chairs, found under home office headers, sport outrageous seat cover patterns in leopard or zebra print, and colors such as lime green, orange or hot pink. The idea comes from the thought that offices in the home are a little less professional or “stuffy”. These hip, modern chairs range from basic offerings up to ergonomic designs with mesh backs.

Mesh backed office chairs offer the same designs as traditional office chairs, but have a breathable mesh back support. While the majority of these mesh style chairs are inexpensive, there are many of these chairs in the upper price range with Italian leather trim, pneumatic adjustments and lifetime guarantees.

Executive style office chair are fuller backed designs with heavier arm rests and fully padded seats. With styles more comparable to receptionist chairs, completely adjustable features such as lumbar and head rests, seat height and back angles are geared for people that spend more time in their chairs during a work day. 24 hour chairs offer complete support, adjustments and comfort for work environments where a chair is used continuously for technical call centers, police dispatchers or hospital staffing.

Learn about other types of office chairs.

It can be very hard for small businesses to survive in a recession economy. Unlike the big banks, government is not looking to bail you out anytime soon, even though small businesses are what drives employment. If you own a business you will have to find ways to survive on your own. Here are some survival business tips for a recession.

Owning a business is more than just another financial investment strategy and another asset allocation for your portfolio. It’s something that you own and are vested in emotionally and you can’t just divest of it because of a bad market. So here are some ways to survive this time.

First of all, look very closely at your costs and make sure those costs are giving you a return. Look especially in personnel because if you have employees, this is probably one of your highest cost structures. It’s not an easy thing to do, but you have to make sure each employee is providing enough return to pay for themselves.

Next, look for ways to generate revenue. That might mean hiring a sales rep. Even in a recession, if you can find a sales person who can produce, they will pay for themselves and then some. If you get an inside sales rep, you can managed them and make sure they are doing their job. Just make sure you have a working sales model before you do that. Some sales reps will even work for commission only. In that case, you would have nothing to lose.

Consider expanding your services or product line. If you’ve been in business for a while, you probably have a book of clients. Raise the value of your client portfolio by adding new services or products that you can up-sell to customers who already know you and trust you.

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. An economic recession is a good time to prune some fat that might have needed to go anyway.

Magnetic badge holders have become an increasingly popular alternative to lanyard badge holders or clipped holders. Magnets are placed in the front and back of the holder, allowing you to conveniently attach it to a breast pocket or belt without damaging your clothing. They are available for both vertical and horizontal IDs and can hold up to two cards at a time.

Magnetized Holders

However, magnetic badge holders are not the only type of ID holder that can be magnetized. Companies can also order magnetic name tags and campaign buttons for use in various trade fairs and conferences. The disadvantage of magnetized holders is that they cost more than the typical clipped badge holder, over $1 per wholesale.

Buying Magnets Separately

Companies, however, can save money by buying the magnets separately and attaching them to the IDs or badges themselves. Magnets in bulk can cost as little as a quarter per and have an adhesive backing that makes them easy to attach to various items.

Three Reasons for Using Plastic Badge Holders

Why do you need plastic badge holders? Here are several reasons why.

Flexible – No matter what location you are in and whatever condition you are facing, these protective covering will guarantee safety for your hard-earned badge.

Affordability – This is very important for every item you are planning to buy. Since the recession has been affecting lives of many people, you need to make sure of what you’re investing on even with small things.

Premium quality – Unlike other materials, plastic badge holders are not easily destroyed. It can bend itself and protect from coffee spills, food juices and other liquid stuffs.

If you really want to invest on something that would last for a long time, then you should purchase plastic material for your badge holder.

Security with Badge Holders

A plastic badge holder comes in varied shapes and sizes. The most basic would be clear vinyl holders that can either be held by a strap or a pin.

Other Features of Badge Holders

The vinyl pockets that badge holders have can also follow color coding for added organization. Color-coded holders allow authorities to easily identify levels within the organization. For instance, the badges become a secondary system in controlling access levels. For added protection for the ID, there are also rigid badge holders that are usually made from hard plastic.

Badge Holders as a Practical Investment

Another type is an arm band plastic badge holder. There are even magnetic ones and anti-static ones so it would be easy to choose one that is perfect for the institution, company or organization. Badge holders increase professionalism. These are also very practical and economical. Lastly but definitely not the least, badge holders encourage people to display their cards that would also increase the safety of the premises.

Most people at home and at the office have file cabinets which are in disarray when it comes to organization. The problem is often worse in cases where the file cabinet is large because entire drawers end up becoming black holes of archived paperwork which is often forgotten about and unneeded. What most people need to take the time to better organize their black file cabinets, purge old documents, and delineate paperwork for easy reference and use.

Luckily the entire process is not hard. The toughest part is going through old documents and deciding what to purge and what to keep. Because cabinet drawers have filing rails it is relatively easy to section off your cabinet for various archival purposes. Once you determine the overarching structure and of your filing system it’s just a matter of moving paperwork around to fit your new organizational method.

One excellent way to achieve better file cabinet organization is to section your paperwork into three categories, one for each file cabinet section or drawer. Identify an archival section where all the paperwork is merely kept for archival purposes. You will also want to identify a timeframe for archival because not everything has to be kept indefinitely.

Next identify a group of documents merely kept for reference purposes. These are documents that don’t necessarily have to be kept but are referenced often and regularly. Lastly working files and documents belong in the upper most section of your cabinet for easy access. Because these files are in process they should be available most easily and be in some sort of additional order. Once these document projects are completed then the file should be purged or transferred to the archival or reference sections of your filing cabinet as appropriate.

Remember, the bain of most bad filing systems is disorder and over-archival material. Be honest with yourself, what really needs to be kept? In most cases documents for archival purposes are never referenced again so if you are in doubt you probably don’t need it. If you can get into the habit of purging and keeping this order in place then your filing cabinet should rarely if ever put any more stress in your life.

After your NextGen EMR system is set up, the next step is to understand how to use your new EMR templates to get more of your practice’s important medical work done. You do not need to create every single electronic medical record from scratch, and the idea that you have to keeps a lot of doctors away from making the switch to electronic medical records. With your guidance, the NextGen certified professional that helps you get your system started will also help you create a series of EMR templates for your new system. This will help your staff understand exactly what to do when creating new EMRs as well as maintaining and editing existing ones.

Switching A Medical Practice to EMR Templates

Your practice is just that; your practice. You have a particular way of doing things and taking care of your patients and your NextGen EMR system should articulate that. There are lots of companies out there who sell NextGen EMR software, but do not want to take the time to help you understand how to use it. When you decide that it is time to make the switch to electronic medical records, do the research and find a reputable company who will send a team to make sure you and your staff can use this system. Make sure they set you up with EMR templates that will be a help rather than a hindrance to your practice.

The switch over to an EMR system does not have to be hard, and neither does the training or maintenance of the new system. A customized EMR template can help you and your staff make this switch painlessly. As doctors you want to be on the cutting edge of medicinal practices, but keeping your staff in the stone age with hard copies of medical files does not make sense. Think about making the switch to EMRs.

If you have a warehouse and operating more than three vehicles then you could be considered as a fleet owner, which means you can obtain the advantages that come along with having a fleet. Lately, fleet management associations have come to realize the worth of small warehouse business market and have developed targeted products, which can aid business owners lessen their administration time as well as overheads.

There’s no more need for thousands of vehicles to take advantage of effective fleet administration and there’s definitely no need to become a huge company. All you have to do is to outsource your feed management to external service providers. Since external providers aggregate the necessities of various clients, preferential discount rates are obtained by fleet administration companies from their suppliers. Their rates are then given to all clients. This means that even small businesses can get rate discounts on labor, fuel and parts.

You can also save on repairs by means of maintenance scheduling. Rescheduling regular maintenance can possibly lead to much costly repairs especially when severe faults begin to occur. By implementing maintenance scheduling you can make sure that regular servicing is performed. The whole process is outsourced. This means that you as a business owner no longer need to worry or remember about the next service date.

Aside from the monetary benefits that you can get from outsourcing fleet management is you can also save administration time. In most cases, about 75 percent of vehicle administration time can be saved by availing the services of external providers. You can even wade through the invoices that can also waste your time and obstruct effective budgeting. All operating costs are combined by outsourcing companies and these include fuel, repair and finance into a single monthly invoice.

Make use of these outsourcing companies’ automobile industry experience. Operating a small warehouse business requires you to be adept and flexible at various tasks unless you are a fleet manager who had enough knowledge and does not need the help of a consultant. The industry knowledge base of these experts covers business areas that you might haven’t contemplated. For example, selecting a new automobile with the cheapest ownership cost or knowing certain vehicle parts’ price to prevent being overcharged.

All the services that are now being offered by outsourcing companies are obtainable at a smaller price than most small businesses could ever think. Outsourcing fleet management operations is not only a corporate service. Administering your business vehicles or trucks has now become much more than simply having a fuel card and can be more rewarding for those who are willing to move on the next steps.
