An Overview of Hickory Flooring
Hickory flooring is one of the many options available to those people that are interested in hardwood flooring for their home. Hickory comes in a variety of colors and grades making it a versatile option that could fit any home’s style. This wood ranges in color from a light tan to a rick dark brown. There are also different grades that make a price range of options available to the consumer. The top grade of hickory wood is generally referred to as select and contains the least natural defects. The lower grades are called rustic or country and contain the most natural defects like pock marks and knots. The lower grades of hickory wood come in a greater variety of color compared to the higher grades. However, this versatility of color comes at a cost as the natural defects of the wood make it unsuitable for a home with a more elegant style. Lower grade versions of hickory are most appropriate for rustic style homes as the name of the grade would suggest. However, whenever you are selecting hickory from a distributor be sure to ask to see a representative sample of the wood. This will ensure that you know what you are getting and that the wood that is installed in your home will not be significantly more disfigured or of a different color than you originally thought.
Hickory hardwood flooring is a very durable option in the hardwood flooring family. Hickory is the second strongest wood in the United States, second only to mesquite wood. The hard quality of his wood makes it a very durable option appropriate for high traffic areas of your home. Hickory can withstand normal wear and tear much better than other woods of its kind and is less likely to dent, scratch and stain keeping it beautiful for many years to come.
